Korin had just walked out of the meadhall where he had talked to his sister. He mounted his horse and slowly headed for home. With his horse moving at a slow walk Korin looked all around. Stonegate Valley was quiet, but it was not the living Korin was looking for.
Korin walked into his Tower pulled the curtain aside and moved into the hidden chambers that were carved out of the snow. He waved his hand and part of a wall melted away to grant him access to his study. Taking a seat at the worn stone desk, Korin began rummaging through the piles of books that littered his desk. Finding the one he was looking for he flipped the pages.
On the page head lined Kelei, Korin marked through the word Deceased. Dipping his quill again, Under the crossed out words he wrote Has returned. As Korin waited for the ink to dry his eyes scanned the pile of books. Then they stopped on the tri cornered hat resting atop a statue. That hat had sat there on this same statue on the same corner of his desk since his sisters funeral. Korin reached up and took the hat off the statue. He let his fingers run along one side of the brim. He knew that this was not his sisters hat. But it was just like the one she wore.
Korin, after a while put the hat back on the statue. He flipped the pages in his book and looked back on his family. Brothers sisters lost or just missing. A father missing. Then when sadness threatened to put Korin in one of his moods again. The bright little Rowan popped into his head. Then Jade and her determination.
Korin closed the book, He could sit here all day and think back on all that was lost. But for every one in his family that was lost there were others still around and more yet to come.
Korin smiled as he stood up. Looking up to the ceiling of his study he said "Besides even death can not stop this family, Is not that right Grandmother."
Then as if someone had hit him in the back of the head, he sat back down and began writing a letter. |

The Salty smell of an Ocean breeze filled Korins room...quite impossible in Malas.
The sound of waves reverberated softly and the wind carried the hat to his desk landing it softly atop the book. _________________ May destiny guide you... |

Korin sat at his desk his eye lid heavy from all the cookies he had eaten. He had bought two dozen to send with his owl to Ciara but on the way home they had smelt so good he had to try just one. One cookie lead to another and as his horse walked along korin had eaten all but three of the cookies he had bought.
Some where between being asleep and awake Korin caught the smell of salt water. A gentle breeze touched his cheek, followed by the sound of papers rustling. Korin openned his heavy eye lids just in time to see the tri cornered hat, Leave the top of the statue and land softly onto the book about his family.
"So it is true, Dread Arrow has returned!" He said, leaning back in his chair and proping his feet on his desk.
cutting his eyes one way then the other he places his hands behind his head. "So sis, anything I can help with?"
Korin waits a few seconds before jumping up. "Show yourself!" he said turning around. "I feel like a fool talking to thin air." |
