The Atalan arrived together, moving in flawless formation. Temperance looked up at the place they called "Mazewood". She was unsure as to the significance of the name but her mild curiosity passed just as quickly as it came. There was a universal sense of pride radiating from the Atalan. Individually, however, their emotions were quite different.
Asimov was calculating.
Saevio was annoyed.
Scythyn was amused.
Trillin was cocky.
Temperance was calm.
Atalan, being empathic, rely much on reading each other through their feelings. Out of their clan, Temperance was often the most difficult to gauge. Her consistant lack of any intense feeling made her emotions almost non-existant, compared to the others. However, in many ways, she was the most predictable of the group. Her reaction to every situation was the same. Practical. Mild interest. Polite. Even.
The Atalan stabled their horses and made their way inside, one right after the other. They followed Asimov to an empty table in the back and seated themselves. Asimov sat first, followed by the others. They spoke very little amongst themselves and Saevio was completely silent, as usual.
Asimov surveyed the room.
Saevio tried to contain his rage.
Scythyn was lost in his madness.
Trillin was hoping for a fight.
Temperance was calm.
Eventually, Saevio was consumed by his boredom and impatience. Without a word, he stood up and nodded to the rest of the Atalan before leaving.
Soon after, a female Human came over and, after being invited to sit, began speaking to the group. Only Asimov was inclined to respond. Temperance often preferred to watch, rather than engage. She sat quietly, with her white hands folded in front of her on the table. She would occasionally join the conversation but she mostly just listened to Asimov and the nomad.
"Humans. Such curious creatures." Temperance thought as she watched the two. |
