Drayden paced impatiently on the roof of the Viceroy's Office. From his vantage point, he could see the lights of the approaching vessels that he had requested. Even though most of his comrades were under deep cover, there was a small group working with him to prepare for an ambitious agenda. The Chancellor took a moment and pulled his spy glass from within the folds of his robes. He extended it, scanning the horizon to the North West. According to his scouts in the water and the ground, Vesper was sleeping. The town had been strangely quiet, but Drayden had the feeling that it wouldn't take long for that to change. Ironic how long ago he had fought to liberate this same city. Fighting mobs of black armored knights and undead. Such irony now that he would return not as a savior, but a conqueror
I know the people from that area...by chaos I cannot remember who. Vampires? More of that silly little Maritime Union Club? It will all be revealed soon...
His black hooded robe whispered quietly around his ankles as he moved to the ground floor and walked silently and calmly outside. From here, he could see a small number of ships gathering at the docks a few fathoms away. With a grim look on his face he stepped inside to gather a few more supplies. A brutal looking crossbow, his bolts, some spare reagents. One never knew what they might need. Drayden then summoned his mount and rode off swiftly to the now crowded dock near the epicenter of the town.
His family was there awaiting him. In the short amount of time they had, his young Daughter had assembled a small flotilla of ships. Drayden smiled briefly, surveying the scene as they prepared to get underway. "Excellent work my dear, this should be enough to plant a solid boot on the coast. We set sail for our beach near Vesper. The time for playing subtlety has come to an end..."
Shri'rae merely nodded and grinned at her father as he stepped onto the smaller cutter that had pulled in. These ships were quick, and with some magic they would arrive at their destination in the dead of night, while most of the citizens slept.
The Chancellor looked to the tiller man and mad a pointing motion. "We move out tonight, carry us swiftly to the south end of Vesper, use the coast to mask our approach."
"Aye sir!"
The small group of ships, large and small, quietly sailed from their port. They took the most direct route to their destination, cruising out of the bay and heading North West to their target.
As they exited their home of Buc's Den, Drayden signaled the others to extinguish the lights on their ships and to pull down the flags. They cruised into open sea, their sights set on their new objective.
"To hell with subtlety my brethren, tonight, we go to take what is rightfully ours!" |

Kelly rode her steed Barra on a casual patrol through the streets of Minoc in the early evening. She tended to some local shopkeep issues and then turned Barra and began to ride southeast toward the moongate. She surveyed the gypsy camp from a safe distance before riding further to the east. She rode into the forest and saw the blue glow of the moongate ahead but had to stop to put a few pesky mongbats out of their misery.
"Damn vermin." She wiped her longsword off on the furry carcass and mounted Barra again.
She patted his sleek black neck and looked around to see if anyone was watching. "Come on Barra. Let's finish the patrol." The black stallion nickered softly and moved forward...toward Vesper.
The city was fairly quiet by nature after the invasion. Most the locals staying to their shops out of fear. She crossed over bridge after bridge of the city. It was unusually quiet. Something isn't right. The people are hiding. She thought as she stopped at the bank. Very few citizens were about as she looked around while astride Barra.
Perhaps the wandering healers were indeed correct. Perhaps the drow have been visiting when the Cappadocians slept. Kelly looked around and cautiously finished the patrol of the whole city. Her thoughts caused a surge of excitement and her mount reared as she pulled him to a halt at the last bridge nearest Cove. A smile grew across her lips. "I don't know you! Or perhaps I do! The city may sleep, but we are awake! Tread carefully for you are in Cappadocian Lands!" She spoke the warning out loudly to the shadows as she spun her steed around.
Kelly kicked her steed into a gallop through the woods toward the city of Cove. She hoped she might catch Lucian to inform him of the rumors and the threat that now encroached their lands. |

She listened to the wood creak against the push and pull of the salty waves. One by one the four ships settled on the narrow expanse of beach on the outskirts of Vesper. Heavily the anchors sank deep beneath the water.
Figures, cloaked and silent, joined her on the shoreline. It took no words. All of them were skilled in communication without the slightest use of their tongues. Words, however powerful, were not needed. It was clear what they had come to do. With a nod they mounted up and headed towards Vesper's main square.
The neigh's and whinnies of the horses could be heard amidst the bustle of those that were out and about that evening. Shopkeepers, sweeping out the days traffic with the force of their wrists and the whisk of their brooms tilted their heads in the direction of the dark skinned newcomers.
It wasn't the first time the people of Vesper had seen Shri'hrae. It wasn't even the fifth time. She's been here off and on for months now and out of the corner of her eye she caught a smile. The blue-eyed blond haired little girl had been almost run over a few weeks ago by one of the town guards who hadn't paid attention to where he was going. Shri'hrae, in order to stop the nincompoop from hurting the girl and waved her staff and sent the wagon careening into the wall of bushes instead.
Had that been a Drow guard or a Drow child in Buc's, it would have called for execution due to incompetence. But then, this wasn't Drow territory.... yet. _________________ *Kitrye Ilhar's Yathrin, Kitrye Ilharn's Mirshann, Jal degahr* |
