Ven shifted in his seat among the audience of people who had come to see Livvie and Ebon be tied to each other in ceremony. He didn't know much about Ebon, as the two men had not talked often, but he had conversed with Livvie quite a few times, and liked her a great deal. She was a lively woman with a firey personality that Ven found both amusing and endearing.

He looked down at his blue robe - his NEW blue robe courtesy of the good folks at Stonegate - and smiled a bit. It was nice to be in the company of people whom he could trust. It had been quite awhile since he was in this type of situation, and he decided it was best to be accepting. His initial response was to always push people away "for their own good". For too long his own personal quest had made him a loner, an outsider. Incapable of allowing people in, allowing friendships. Because in the end, if they stood in between he and his goal, the friendships would no longer matter to him.

But this was different, wasn't it? Yes. He was no longer in pursuit of the Temple. It was far out of his grasp now (although it did burn him up inside to think that Pravus may have ascended the steps and entered that place). In any case, now was a time to start anew. And so here he was. Doing just that. Accepting new friendships. Learning new skills (or perhaps "re-learning" his skills was more apt in this case). The "skills" issue was annoying to him, and he frequently would grow frustrated with the fact that he was unable to cast potent spells. Being relegated to casting lower-level spells was a source of some embarrassment for him at this point, although he was pleased with himself in that he was gaining more and more skill every day. He had even acquired a suitable set of armor. He was not used to wearing armor as a mage (hence the shifting in his seat to get himself more comfortable). On his own plane, mages wore robes over normal clothes. Armor was for warriors, not mages. But things were different here. And he needed to accept that. He needed to adjust to his new environment.

He looked out at Myrddin, who was performing the ceremony and another twinge of embarrassment hit him when he remembered the recent conversation in which he first realized that Myrddin was a King. He had been referring to the man by his first name instead of "Sire" since his arrival. "Stupid..." Ven thought, chastising himself. It was easily remedied, of course, and Ven had begun referring to Myrddin as Sire since that conversation, but it was still a source of some embarrassment to him. Never mind it, though. Myrddin had told him that he had not been offended, and Ven took him at his word. It was just another example of how he was still playing the role of "outsider" to some degree. "But I suppose the only thing that can change that is time..." Ven thought. And he certainly had plenty of that on his hands. He would be fine. He would adjust.
