The numbers were getting a bit overwhelming, Benji and Dane were loosing pace. Dane! Benji slapped a bandage on his arm and road up towards his companion. We have to get out of this cave these monsters are insane. Where are they coming from? They just pop up out of the walls! Dane looked at his friend, knowing they were in serious trouble, the Troglodytes coming on in stronger and stronger waves.
The Chieftan Lurg looming in the distance, his dark skin and ferocious roar pushing his subjects on. They were in a complete frenzy, ripping and tearing at the two hunters, a large hand delivering a fatal wound to Benji's horse. Dane leaned over and grabbed Benji holding his short companion by the back of his shirt benji quickly climbing astride the back of Danes mare. With that Dane turned on a dime his horse quivering with exertion, sweat lathering over her skin. He rubbed her neck and urged her on as groves of Trogs descended on the fallen horse tearing it limb from limb.
Benji shuddered, that could of been him. Dane yelled back, no time for goodbyes old friend we need to get out of here fast. The horse leapt forward and the wild massive yowls of Troglodytes could be heard in hot pursuit. That was when luck ran out for these two, Dane turned in the confusion running down a long hall of stone and came to a prominent dead end. Peering into the darkness, panic setting in, Dane saw a small alcove in the cave walls. He quickly leapt from his horse motioning Benji to follow. There was no hope for it the Mare would have to be left to defend herself, the alcove to small. With a strong smack of his hand he sent her running, Benji and himself fleeing into the small alcove.
Yet eyesight in these dim caverns was not the only gift to the Troglodytes, no smell was also a gift they were well versed in. It was not long before the room outside their small alcove was filled with Trogs. Grunting and clawing they pawed the walls, knowing that the stragglers were in here some where. Benji could feel hope slipping from his heart and Dane looked about wildly for some means of an escape.
It was then that an odd occurance took place. One that these men would deny to their deathbeds I am sure. Yet a new sound infiltrated, the grunting and lurking of Trogs ceased for a few precious seconds. Like the calm before the storm they seemed stunned, or perhaps in awe by some new sight. Benji peered out cautiously of thier small hidey hole, all he could see was a Trog's slackjawed face gazing at the opening to the current room.
A growl unlike anything the men had ever heard possessed their ears, it was inhuman, ferocious and completely wild. It made the blood in thier veins stand still, their fear leaping to some new platform. It was some new creature, surely not a Troglodyte. Dane's face paled as the room and walls around them began to crackle, the temperature of the room dropping rapidly. Icicles were forming around the entrance to their alcove. In disbelief, they huddled quickly together . It was then that the first splatter of blood flew inside the small hiding spot. It covered them and soon hardened fasted, frozen to their clothing and skin.
Screams.. piercing and loud, body parts hitting the walls and viciously strewn thru out the room Wild cries of death, and slaughter plunging the room into a nightmare beyond compare. The few Trogs still alive, ran in a panic, but they to soon were silenced. The stench of death became unbearable, Benji bent over putting his head between his legs gasping for air trying to calm his lurching stomach. Blood sprung gurgling from the dead bodies like water from a well, it began covering and seeping into the surface of the cave. Silence returned and Dane new the creature stood just inches from where they were, and it was moving towards them. A blue light, cold and cruel, entered their hiding spot. That is when they saw her, gruesome, ferocious and deadly.
Dark blue hair fell around her shoulders, her skin pale as snow but oddly not a drop of blood was on her. Her armor gleamed in the dim light, it was dark and strong, wellmade and moved with her as if it was a part of her. It was her clawed hands, her fanged teeth, that hinted at something not quite right.
A familiar whinny brought him out of his reverie as he stared up at his mares large brown eyes. Blinking in surprise, he held out his hand to her, yet she stood steadfast near the creature. The Mare nuzzled her side as if they were old friends her devotion clear. The creatures hand lifted, elegant fingers now in place of the claws and gracefully they grasped the Mares reines. In a motion well practiced she lightly set herself upon the horses back. With venom in her voice she looked down condemnation in her eyes. Shes a good horse, a warrior's horse..... you dont deserve her. Turning away from them the sound of what was once his horse, clattered away leaving he and Benji alone to fend their way out of the cave.
Dane was astounded, the woman hadnt come to save them, indeed he was suprised she hadnt killed them both. She had come for his horse... What the hell was that Dane! But Dane could not respond he swallowed convulsively. . Or perhaps it was a much more threatening experience than death, perhaps the imprint of those cruel, cold, blue eyes piercing into him with such loathing would haunt his dreams. He knew in that instant, it wouldnt of mattered what she battled, she would of killed it all in the same way. Anything that stood in her way... _________________ May destiny guide you... |
