Logged in to one of my e-mail accounts for the first time in awhile and soon remembered that it was the account that was associated with my old World of Warcraft account. How do I know this? Because I find slightly over a dozen e-mails informing me of "activity on my account", "account will be closed/banned due to violation of EULA by attemping to sell your account" and other such fun claims like "sign up for WoW: Cataclsym Beta now!". One creative follow-up e-mail on the "account will be banned" e-mail was a "Sorry for banning you. Our bad. Log in now and we'll give your 10000 gold and a free rare mount." Trying to cash in on my natural Orcish greed are they?
It is bad enough that I haven't touched that account in over 3 years now and used an extremely long and awkward password for that account (so even if someone found out one of my other passwords they certainly couldn't get into my inactive account), but just the kind of basic purposeful typos these people use to fool people into thinking they are with WoW or Battlenet. Stuff like Batt1enet.com, batt1e.net and worldofwaroraft.com. And of course they do you one better by having the hyperlink say the correct address, but the actual page link is to one of the aforementioned sites.
I am assuming they aren't being all that specific in who they spam with this stuff, or else they might know better than to send it to someone who couldn't care much less about what is going on in WoW and might be more inclined to figure out what they are doing. Oh well. To each their own, the greedy bastids. _________________ Femmies?! HOWAH!

Same thing happened to my brother, I told him to google the email and behold its a scam. Think the email lead to someone named hippyguy or hippybeard. |

Even worse is that half of those sites, if you do mistakenly go to them, appear authentic. I still get tons, and also in game, they whisper you pretending to be GMs and tell you to go to their site. Sometimes they threaten banning/closing account, sometimes they offer rewards or ask for beta testers. |

The WoW scams are pretty crazy. I do miss the terrible in-game spam, though. I haven't gotten it in a while, it was always funny. Like this one, wtf is it trying to even say?

Especially with the accent over the "a". That is a sign they really mean business with that one. _________________ Femmies?! HOWAH!

What's sad is that with how many people they send this crap to, they're bound to find enough gullible idiots to make it worth their while. |

Oh how those always made me lol. At least that one is pretty much grammatically correct. I would often get some from "Blizzrad" and what have you, saying things like "deer loved customs, we are of great appreciate and will give u completion with thanks an honors, visit this one www .blizzardwhatever. jp" or something equally ridiculous. Or it'd be something trying to tell me I need to visit some website or I will be banned, also written completely illogically. At least that person/group/whatever tried to make it sound legit with you, Kael. I've never seen one that wasn't flat out obvious. |

They get pretty silly. Funnily enough, I remember a link on reddit to something like 'If you think you are up to date on phishing scams, watch this video' which led to a perfect replica of the youtube account login page. The comments thread was an explosion of people saying 'OH GOD I DIDNT EVEN LOOK AT THE URL' and the original poster reassuring them that it was a proof of concept website and didn't abuse their info. |

I get that crap too, and I haven't logged onto wow in over three years. I keep meaning to contact WoW and close it but I'm too lazy to care. _________________ (4:45:41 PM) Jarem: It becomes increasingly difficult to feel noble in my causes when my cause is to defend my charge from her own violent tendencies. |

Same here, I haven't logged in in years.
It's how phisher's get unsuspecting people to give up their account information. I use Gmail, so I can easily check the details and see what mail server these are sent through. 100% of the time it is a hotmail address that has been renamed to look like a blizzard name. It's totally a scam. |

Funny but sad.
You would be shocked at the number of hacked accounts posting tales of woe on the official forums.
It's unbelievable. _________________

A few people in my boyfriend's guild were phished with this stuff. The funny thing is, it's a high end raid guild. You'd think people who play the game seriously would know better. |
