|
Perhaps this is the best question for you. What feelings are brought up in you when I utter the word, Trust..?
Kaylor shrugged off his dusty cloak, tossing it carelessly over the back of a chair as he made his way through the parlor and up the stairs to his bedchamber. He kicked at the door. Losing his patience at its reluctance to yield, he pressed his shoulder to the jamb forcing the heavy wooden barrier asunder.
The room was warm in candleglow and scented faintly with myrrh. A dark veil of subtlety traversed over his countenance as he drew Merci's parchment from the black leather pouch secured to his belt. A curious question, MiLady Oracle, he whispered aloud in thought. What has trust to do with memory? He lay the missive on his desk as he passed it by, walking to the window and throwing wide the shutters. Despite summer's forthcoming approach winter's glacial chill held him yet within its incessant embrace. Do not fear the cold, for I am its source - words he'd neither forgotten nor quite been able to comprehend. What he did understand, however, was the steady beating of his heart, the surety of air moving through his lungs and the certainty of strength that life imparted.
He returned to his desk, taking up a quill to scribe in reply . . . . .
Dearest Friend,
I hunger for further discussion on this most interesting subject - trust - for it seems to bear a great weight of significance with regard to your release of my memories back to me. Rest well, however, in my assurance, Oracle, that were I not capable of trust even you would hardly be privy to the knowledge of my newly affirmed avocation. As to whether I shall share this information with my lady Fiona, it is a consideration I have yet to decide as I wish to cause her no unnecessary distress.
Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you as your birthing day draws near.
Ever in your service,
Kay
Calling for his messenger, he gave orders for his missive's immediate delivery, then suddenly overcome with exhaustion he crossed his arms on the desk and lay down his head. Fatigued as he was, he knew sleep would elude him. |
