It was late, and the moonlight illuminated her pale skin. She was the daughter of the moon, the sister of the frost and the faith of Stonegate. In her clawed hand rested a small being. A perfectly smooth and perfectly shaped snake.

She brought it up to her face and rubbed its scaly surface against her cheek, for a moment she felt the flicker of its tiny tongue. The snake raised its head, her blood red eyes peering around the room. She was hungry Merci could feel it...

So far her other children, the newborns had not behaved in any way other than that of normal children. Did this mean they were normal, no, but everything worked at its own speed. Yet Emily had chosen this form from the start. This tiny babe had left her mother a squalling flesh and blood infant and awoken a snake.

Nights enchanments upon the child,
Hear leaves rustling far and wild,
Tasting air and scales a glow,
