“ Did you have to wallpaper the city? I'm not a criminal” Livvie's voice was higher than normal and every word was laced with aggravation.
“You had options, you ignored them.” A grin spread across Aaron's face as he looked down on his little sister. At 6'2” he towered over her. With his lanky form leaning against the walls of the Luna Bank with a piece of grass sticking out of his mouth he looked every bit the farm boy. His blond hair with it's red highlights shimmered with sweat in the sunlight. And his muscles were clearly visible beneath the leather armor and his eyes laughed at her with every word.
“It's called a life Aaron, I got one. Maybe you should do the same thing!” He had one actually and Livvie knew it. He had been grown and self sufficient since he was 12. A fact Livvie resented with every piece of iron in her cabinet at the Meadhall. Her brothers had always had more common sense, more of ahead for business and practical matters than she had. Livvie was more given to flights of fancy. If she dreamed it, she went out and got it. She didn't worry if she had the money for it or if it was too far. And she had never cared if it was an impossible task. A fact that had landed her flat on her butt and broken hearted at 16 when she tried to leave home the first time.
Aaron just stood there leaning in a non-commital way with his eyes piercing her soul. There wasn't a word she could say he wouldn't get ahead of time. He knew her. And that angered her and consoled her at the same time. “Where are you hiding this time?”
“I'm not hiding,” she bit out. It was a lie and she knew it. So did he. Closing her eyes and cursing under her breath she finished the sentence. “I work in Stonegate. I have a room at the Meadhall and I have dinner to prepare almost every night. It's north and through the mountain passes.”
Aaron nodded his head in a brief acceptance of her answer.
“ I have to go, I have work to do. If you want to visit me. Do it there. Not in the middle of the Sosaria market with every merchant, thief and peeping tom watching us.” She turned to go and heard a call over her shoulder.
“Livvie, if I have to hunt you down again...I'll be dragging you back home by your ponytail. No running you will ever do will be so far that I can't find you.” Livvie gritted her teeth and closed her eyes. He was telling the truth. And somewhere inside her a voice chanted from within as she marched back to Stonegate. “Time to go, Livvie” |
