A courier has delivered the following letter to the estate of Duchess Molly Kaldhel. It bears the seal of the Lord Regent Thraxas of Yew:

"Greetings Your Grace,

At the risk of appearing rude or crass, please do me the favor of calming yourself, and putting an end to the ostentatious display of fear over the life and well-being of your cousin. She is in no danger whatsoever. I would not presume to place her in jeopardy. And if this is a means to curry favor with would-be jurors by insinuating that improprieties of my making exist in her case, I am sure it will backfire. Her own deeds will be her undoing; I have no need of insurance.

Besides that, the heralds are giving a false message as it is. I have had all the items they speak of in my keeping for months and have sent word to you that they have been collected and catalogued. That did take some time, of course. However, you being one not easily located, and her being your own cousin, I had rather imagined you would be seeking them out without prompting. But if it pleases you, I can have them delivered to your estate whenever you wish. In short, please do not blame me for delays. I am more anxious than anyone that this distasteful episode be concluded quickly, regardless of outcome.

Also remember that I am a member of the Union Presidium in good standing largely because of my own past actions and hard work. Anyone seeking to undermine my influence and reputation in the Union will find it hard going on account of that. Be warned, and exercise the nobility of prudence and fair play in the future, please. It does neither of us any good to sell the other short.

It should go without saying but I find it needful to say now: I bear neither you nor your cousin any ill-will. Let the truth be known and let justice prevail, is my motto.

Your Servant,

Thraxas
Lord Regent of Yew
Maritime Union Presidium Councilor"

"Greetings Your Grace,

My Factor has been dispatched to Luna where he awaits your summons. He has all the items you requested except a list of witnesses. We are still searching for any. No elves have or will cooperate thus far, and since the murder occurred in Heartwood, it makes things very difficult. The assassins did their work well. But I shall persevere. When I obtain a witness, I will pass along the name(s) as soon as possible.

Please do not keep my Factor waiting; he has a multitude of other assignments for which I badly need his services. Thank you.

Your Servant,

Thraxas
Lord Regent of Yew
Presidium Councilor, M*U"

Greetings Lord Thraxus,

I will be able to meet with your man tomorrow eve or if he would wish he can drop them at my home, leaving the papers with my herald. She stands in the great hall as you enter. She will get them to me should you need him before tomorrow eve.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,
