Livvie, where do you think you’re going?” Jonathon Dell watched as his daughter packed a leather sack tightly. “For the love of cheese wheels, Livvie you don’t need the cast iron skillet.”

“And how would you know?” Livvie’s emerald eyes sparkled at her father, laughter just creasing the edges. “Maybe where I’m going they don’t have skillet’s. How am I supposed to cook without my favorite skillet?” As if to put off his observations Livvie turned the iron skillet over and over in her hand. A deep black from years of cooking, the place where her name was etched lovingly in the bottom could no longer be seen. You would have to know it was there and caress your fingers over the indentations. A movement Livvie did often to remind herself what she was and where she came from.

“Livvie, how do you expect to make a living?” Livvie closed her eyes and sighed against the onslaught of questions. Her Father may have just been concerned for her safety but he is grating on her final groove of patience.

“Daddy, I’ll make a living the same way I have since I was 14. I’m a good cook,” she held up the skillet once more. “And I’m not half bad with poisons. Maybe they need both.”

“Who is they, Livvie?”

“I don’t know! Someone!” She was starting to lose her temper.

“And if they, whoever they is, don’t need a cook or an alchemist, what then?”

“Then I find a new path Daddy. Either way I can’t stay here anymore. I’m 19 and I am too old to be coddled. “ Livvie cinched up the pack and started out the door.

“Olivia Rhiannon Dell!” Her father’s voice over her shoulder and the sobs that she could almost swear followed it echoed in her ears for the next 2 hours. Wiping matching streaks from her face she didn’t look back. For better or worse, Livvie was going to make her way in Sosaria, starting with the Stonegate Valley.
