Sought out, he was, for reasons that are perplexing to the man. Arieus arrived at The Citadel finding Arcana was there. She was poking around and seemed to be admiring the war structure with her usual keen eye. He extended a warm greeting, and delightful smile. Arcana responded accordingly, and it was noted she seemed unusually jaded.
Arcana had only exceedingly rarely, sought out the wandering knight. He was attempting quiet the childish excitement, and in its stead, extends his polite hospitality. The idea of a snowball fight and the grand fun of perhaps sledding, making snow angles, or other antics came to mind. Arcana, however seemed to have some other purpose in mind, he was still baffled at her presence their in.
“What a surprise, would ye be in mind for a tour?” He offered, at her mention of the new layout and strategic location of The Citadel. Inwardly thinking it was too early to further pressure her, after his spontaneous revelation several moons hence.
“Verily” Arcana retorted with a smile and they wandered about, as Arieus explained the different sections and their corresponding purpose. He could tell she thought the majority of the structure was rather drab, but he reminded her of the clumsy nature of his half-brother, Daynle. She nodded and laughed a bit, thus clearly logical.
The end of the tour found both upon the roof, where atop its three stories, could be witnessed the beautiful glow of Luna, and the refreshing, cool air of the mountains.
There, they discussed recent events and pondered the goings of late.
“For once in your life, Arcana, do something for yourself. Please be happy. This is not an order, simply a request in kind.” Arieus said, and beheld the wondrous lady whom was obviously in the state of confusion, perhaps vulnerability. Some might think this unfortunate, perhaps boring. Arieus was driven by chivalry and nay was it the time for games that were left better in mind and privacy.
She was offered a hug, an embrace of security, naught of any other underlying meaning, twas a sincere affection, setting aside his obvious love for her. “Go” he said, “And find within ...your destiny and be at peace.” An ironic stabbing, seeing as they were on the battlements of a citadel build for war. His true meaning was being masked by the cryptic shortness of his squelched emotions, a hunger for a more straightforward approach from the noble lady.
Arieus would not take advantage of such a precious person. He knew Arcana was heart broken, but offered only a smile and his eyes gleamed with fierce, yet honest admiration. Whatever Arcana chose to do, Arieus would stand like that Citadel, ever guarding the light within.
Arcana departed.
Later that night, to quell his passion, Arieus tested the flaming ballista system of the fortress. As the pitch enlightened the snowy mount, his expression was reviled through the night’s cloak. He wept.

Austin De’Chevia slid back into his room from a witnessing balcony and thought to himself the world cruel, yet the house kind, human, and even maybe, too much so. The mage, residing within, fell asleep as the burning embers exhausted in the chill to follow. _________________
