|
A robe laid off to the side on a chair, as if in a discarded fashion. The only oddity was the blanket beneath it, and the pieces cut off of the sleeve. At the table laid three needles, with a bag attached to each filled with something a dark purple. Next to the bag, there were strips of paper, vials of unknown liquids, and a frog. An eight-legged rabbit with mummified skin hung from the wall, its eyes never leaving the frog.
"USeB, stop scaring Preggy!" the young drow said, making shooing motions with her hands toward the spider bunny. USeB gave a small jump and hurried to the top of the wall, touching the ceiling. Ciara picked up the frog, petting its head.
"It's alright Preggy. He won't hurt you. Hopefully I won't have to as well." Ciara gave a sorrowful look to the frog before setting it down and turning to a bag. She withdrew the blood and placed it into a dish; the blood turning red as the oxygen touched it. She took another bag, placing it in a dish. Lastly she grabbed the third bag, a mix of both frog blood and chemicals, and placed a drop into each dish. She watched carefully as one reacted quickly, the signs obvious. The other...
"It's too soon to tell." Ciara groaned, then with unusual suddenness, smiled joyfully. It was a success. The blood she got from the pregnant lady down the road's blood did react so Preggy could live. She gave a full shouted cheer as she grabbed the frog and spun it around. Hearing an almost fearful "croak" she stopped, set the frog down, and patted its head.
Next step would take longer. She placed five pieces of cloth into a dish, and a different vial was chosen for each dish. She sealed each one air tight and set three of them aside. Two she tossed into her trash barrel and shrugged. They had been too obvious, but even the obvious needed investigation. Whatever was on that robe was definitely not common enough to be found so quickly. Ciara glanced at the robe then stared at USeB. "It sure would have been easier if she could just say it was nightshade or foxglove though." Ciara shook her head and grabbed the frog and USeB, taking them out of the room to go play in the garden while she waited for the results. |
