She had seen her at the wedding. Fiona, her niece. That aloof demeanor that seemed to run rampant in the d'Rue clan now, was greatest in Fiona. Taking a deep sigh Emily stared from her position aloft the icy walkways and confirmed what she knew she had to do. She had to go see her. She had questions, and after all, how often was it one got to converse with someone you love after death?

Fiona was everything Emily had remembered only hardened to a tougher shell. She was polite, responsive and disconnected. That was until the discussion of how Emily and her beloved Marus had died came up. Emily tried to keep the details short. In all honesty it was as much to save herself as it was to save her Niece. the memory had never faded and to this day Emily could clearly smell the smoke from the fires that had been set, burning her nostrils and reminding her that there was flesh amongst the embers. Yes, Emily had wanted to cry at the thought. That single mental image would haunt her eternally. But crying in front of Fiona wouldn't strengthen the communication bond. It would wedge it farther.

Finally when the last detail was out Emily quickly changed the subject back to her Niece. She watched the girl grow increasingly uncomfortable when the subject of a love interest came up. Emily watched her Niece politely answer any and all questions. She had to give the girl credit. No matter what, she remembered her manners when speaking to her Aunt, even when it was inconvenient for her. That was driven further home when Fionntan came up. Emily saw the girl as a precious resource, a life to fawn over, to adore, to teach. Fiona saw her as a natural successor and an obligation. That is where Emily hit her brick wall. And with every comment, every question to Fiona she came that much closer to anger. If ever she wanted to throttle her niece it was now, the one time she physically couldn't.

That changed when she came face to face with Fionntan herself. All traces of anger faded when she looked lovingly into the little girls eyes. Compassion, heartache and a sense of understanding drifted through Emily's being connecting them through time. Fionntan had no clue who she was. Emily had been long gone of course before she was ever conceived. That didn't seem to matter though. They "knew" each other. As surely as Emily "knew" Korin, she knew Fionntan. the rub was going to be to get Fiona to "know" Fionntan. Come hell or high water, that was one more task Emily would complete before she left. Yes, the list was growing...

1) The issue of Merci and Bishimi's future....and the future of their offspring...
2) Korin (This was almost resolved)
3) Alexis
4) Willow
5) Fiona and Fionntan

Emily sighed to herself.. so much to do and so little time left. Hopefully the fates would wait just a little longer....
