The raven soared wearily over the valleys of ice and snow as it finished the last of its extremely long journey. Somewhere in its little raven mind it wondered if its master had any concept of exactly how long it took to fly around the continents of Malas to deliver a note. Especially to such a miserable climate. It arced in low and dropped its note at the foot of Stonegates hall of justice as it normally did when delivering notices to Felyn.
Greetings Wolf King Myrddin ab'Arawn,
It is a surprise to me that I would seek to contact you so soon after our short conversation at the Mazewood Tavern. But in light of the events of last evening, I am deeply inclined to send you this.
In a single move you have done more to tarnish the name of Sanctus and prove their fallen nature than the Order has achieved in the decades we have fought them. Your mother spoke to me of what might have been the driving reason for you leaving and creating Stonegate. A pincer to crush Sanctus from both sides, her from the south in Umbra, and you from the north by passing through Luna. And while perhaps that plan has fallen to tatters, the soul of the plan lived on through you. Sanctus may yet exist as a physical entity, but it is not the Sanctus that we remember. It is still an enemy to both your nation and my order, but you have played your part most excellently.
I cannot help to wonder if you are not merely inspired, but a genius of planning. That perhaps the change of power in Umbra was not a set-back to you, merely a change of conditions. That while we kept the world focused on us, you could move as you saw fit. Claiming Luna yet managing to still come off as the victims. Insinuating yourself into the Protectorate. And now forcing Sanctus to openly receive your assistance and cast down their traditions and sanctity for the sake of defending a fallen vampire. A truly stunning victory for Stonegate.
Perhaps I give you too much credit. Perhaps you merely came to Sanctus because you were itching for a fight or simply wished to oppose us where ever we are. I cannot discount that possibility. But I would rather risk overestimating you, than understimating you again.
I was not being cheeky or snide when I spoke to you at Mazewood, you know? I really do look forward to writing your history. You and yours shall be a most magnificent chapter in the annals of history. I look forward to the next paragraph of your nation with anticipation.
Walk in Darkness,

An almost perfect stillness overtook the room, save for the slightest of drafts through the cracks of a door. The breeze was of the sharpest cold, and with it came a life unto the room about the Wolf King.
There he stood, in almost perfect stillness, almost perfect silence, contrasted by the pull and whistle of air rushing through and over all it's cold touch could reach.
This contrast was life to the man surrounded by death. Surrounded by many pages, resembling so many corpses.
His head slowly panned, his eyes coming to rest on each of them one by one.
A letter filled with hate from Ceinwyn.
An urgent, perhaps panicked letter from Kelly Darkhaven.
A letter of recognition and well wishes from Izrem of the Skull.
A favorable public response from the Lord Of Sanctus.
A note of finality, from a lost soul. One of the best he'd ever trained.
So many things had changed, for better and worse, that it was becoming more and more difficult to tell how it would all end.
How it would end...
That was not a thought Myrddin often entertained beyond the realm of planning. Even now, the ever growing pile of papers inspired thoughts of how it began.
A long, twisted path of fate he had walked. He walked it now, holding firm the belief that every step made him stronger. His strength lending to those steps that would follow toward the destiny he was born to fulfill.
That had always been enough. It would have to do for the rest of civilization.
He looked for a long moment at the ab'Arawn family portrait that hung upon his wall. The moment could have been minutes or hours.
When it was done he looked to the blank piece of paper before him on the table and picked up a quill.
Izrem Verin'Vlos, Ancient of Oblivion,
As I consider your words I find myself neither honored or insulted.
You make many implications. Some foolish men might have thought your sharing of this line of reasoning to be a long overdue acknowledgment of superiority.
Others, no less foolish, might be too heavily motivated by fear and paranoia into thinking that your words are written with a purely manipulative intent. Designed carefully and well planned that they might persuade their reader and gain power in the form of subtle control.
I pay you the compliment of making no assumption as to your intent. There is always the possibility that you truly believe my actions to be a victory over Sanctus, and in this you rejoice.
I will not validate one way or another your claims of my genius, for though I remain confident in my own ability to lead this kingdom, I would be a weaker man to seek the validation of anyone.
It is with no gift of foresight that I feel I have learned much of your people throughout my lifetime. It is in fact with some disappointment that I am told of my mother's discussions with you, regardless of whether her words are true or false. It is surely a sign that even one who once so powerfully denounced all in the name of Oblivion can come to kneel beneath its shadow.
For me this is but reinforcement, that there is much to learn on my path still, and the need for the enlightenment that shall come with continuation.
King Talon and his people have long fought against the skull, championing the beliefs that they call their own. It may or may not be said that those beliefs are now tattered, but only the strong survive. I too have long fought the Skyfires, and I have no doubt that in time their line will remain to perhaps face me again.
No matter the case.. I assure you that I am no victim.
Nor is my kingdom.
We are the Warriors of Fate.
Should you be confident in your existence in years to come, that you might write my story...
Than there is no need for the discussion of motivations. When I am dead, the world will long have known.
-Myrddin ab'Arawn
Wolf King of Stonegate
************
Myrddin did not know how it would end.
But if it was death, he would welcome it. _________________ "You see I can not be forsaken, because I'm not the only one. We walk amongst you, beating, r#ping, must we hide from everyone?" - Jon Davis |
