Lilyth exited the ship as soon as it had docked in Cove. She strode off the gang plank onto the docks tucking her hair under her hat. The town was bustling as the ships cargo began to be unloaded. Lilyth walked towards the bank and was stopped by a woman in black. The lady greeted her warmly to the town. The two talked as Lilyth inquired as to the location of the nearest in and tavern still determined to wash her anxiety and sadness away. As the light conversation went on with the woman on the docks Lilyth found a small pouch slipped into her hand. The woman then led her to a nice little room where she could stay comfortably. As the two women talked Lilyth took out the strange substance from within the pouch looking at it curiously. "So this will do me more good than a few stiff drinks?" the woman in black smiled answering "yes it will". After moments of discussing how to use the contents of the pouch Lilyth pulled a small pipe from her bag and began to slowly smoke. An immediate sense of calm set on her growing with each draw from the pipe. Lilyth offered to purchase a bit more pleased with the result of the first, her eye lids heavy as a welcome need to sleep crept over her. The woman obliged her with another pouch with several doses worth of the powder and excused herself.
Peace enveloped her as she lay stretched on the bed lost in a haze of regret and confusion, both nicely dulled by the effects of the powder. This gave her time to think. She rationalized knowing that she herself had fought the importation of this substance. But, it wasn’t so bad she thought, not so bad at all. Her thoughts turned again to recent events. There was still no word from Dealthagar, she was concerned for him, there was something wrong she was sure of it. As that thought subsided Lilyth began to think of RedWind and her heart hurt. In the minutes after Dealthagar had shown her the true dark of his ways, asking her to join him in Singularity one brilliant picture flamed through her mind. It was the face of RedWind, he was the most virtuous and steadfast man she had ever known. In the last weeks events every move she made came round to the question of "What would RedWind think of her now". Why did his opinion matter so much she thought as she rolled onto her stomach gazing at the engagement ring on her finger. Lilyth knew why RedWinds opinion of her mattered so much to her she respected him, adored him...loved him. As the recognition of her feeling formed into a solid thought she knew what she must do. Slowly and with deliberation Lilyth pulled the ring from her finger, "I would rather live alone forever than become what I have fought against for a lifetime" she whispered to the walls. The revelations of Dealthagar had sealed their fate ending any chance there was that Lilyth could or would marry him.
The next morning Lilyth again went to board a ship this one to Serpents Hold, there was a Regency Meeting that evening. The Regency, it made Lilyth laugh wondering when it would show it’s dark underbelly of conniving politics to those left who held an ounce of light in their heart. She knew it would not be long, it was corrupted beyond being saved. Rufus strong as he was could not stop it’s demise. The ship rocked in the waves as Lilyth took her pipe out once more. Lighting the pipe she sat on the deck and watched as the gulls presence signaled they were close to land. She disembarked the ship and headed for the tailors and then to the nearest inn. After her two day journey she was in need of a bath and definitely had to be dressed more to her usual fashion than she was currently. Lilyth entered the meeting room and took a seat surprised at the lack of RedWinds presence, she had come only to see him. She was not disappointed as she saw him stroll into the crowded room. A smile passed between them and Lilyth was glad to not be encumbered by that ring of deceit she had worn only a night earlier. It was an amusing meeting to say the least, perhaps enlightening. She watched with interest as Isk and Legerion worried over the perception of the Regency as the vote on the Dark Orders admittance came up on the schedule. The entire event had been a circus, perhaps she thought that is why there was spectator seating. As she shook her head at the goings on Lilyth was glad she was no longer a part of this infected organization. The meeting adjourned Lilyth decided her course, she traveled to Dealthagars home near Caina placing the ring and a note on the alter table downstairs.
Dearest Dealthagar,
I am sorry but we cannot be, as I am sure you know in your heart
Ever your friend,
Lilyth
She glanced at the note, that was enough to say. Short and sweet like their engagement. With newfound resolve Lilyth began the arduous trip back to Yew and her home the place where her heart would always reside. _________________ "Always forgive your enemies. Nothing annoys them so much."
