|
A messenger with a small letter comes to the rented room in the Tokuno inn where Rei stays, delivering to her a small hand folded envelope tied shut with a deep green silk ribbon.
-----
My most beloved Rei-chan,
I have missed you greatly these last few weeks. The trawler work has been hard, but it is rewarding. Each catch gives me a sense of accomplishment. These fish will feed many citizens of the land, and I have had a part in bringing them home.
The comaradarie on the ship is good. The men here are simple, hard working men, unassuming and proud. I am honored to toil at thier side.
The ship is returning to port soon, and I long to see you, my beloved. It has been too long, and my heart aches for just the moment to have you next to me, holding my hand, resting your cheek against my chest. It is the small moments of life I miss most of you.
I should very much like to walk with you when I return. I miss your company, your council, and your laughter. I have found comfort in my poetry.
The ocean laughs
I can't stop this feeling
my heart is yours
This evening's moon
I gaze on it alone
then go to sleep
The messenger hawk can only carry so much, my love, so I must keep my letter short.
I love you, and I count the days until we will be together again.
