A letter marked as the first in a sequence.

Dearest Rufus,

You are constantly in my thoughts and the memory of our last night together before Raji and I boarded the ship still lingers with me. Thank you for thinking of it! Taking another day out of our journey so we could share one more night together as a family was so thoughtful of you, my love.

Naji did extremely well on the voyage, he comes from a long line of seafaring ancestors and did them proud. The motion of the ship rocked him to sleep for most of the journey but he loved to be on deck. Watching the sailors and the bellowing of the sails caught his eye as well as the warm sun upon his soft cheeks. I on the other hand didn’t fare so well. My stomach was constantly rolling with every wave. Gladys foolishly thinks I am with child once more but I tend to think it is due to my sadness of being apart from you.

The sunsets are breathtaking on the deck of a ship. That time of the day on our voyage is when I miss you the most. We have had many cherished memories of sharing either sunrises or sunsets in each other’s arms. Soon my love we may walk along the beaches of Nujelm lighted by the fading sun. Till then hold my love for you close.

With all my love,
Sarah.

A letter marked as second in the series.

Dearest Rufus,

We have finally reached the island. The monastery is a huge low lying building made of yellowish stone, that rambles on the side of the mountain. It has many verandas to look out over the sea and over the village by the port.

We disembarked yesterday, the day was hot and humid as we were littered up to the side of the mountain to the monastery. I would say that this island resembles Magincia in it’s lush tropical growth, humidity and temperature. Due to the nature of the climate it took all day to unload our belongings and have them delivered to the suites where Naji will be living.

Naji’s rooms are quite adequate for him. He has several personal rooms as well as public and servant quarters. All are in the east wing of the main building and all are lavishly appointed. I feel better now after looking at the surroundings that will be in my son’s life. I have also met many hu-man and elvish personages that are of great interest. Many are much more intelligent than I but I am able to converse with most. You would enjoy their company and stimulating conversations. There is one in particular that has great wisdom. He takes me for afternoon strolls before tea, advising and educating me of a wide variety of subjects. A fascinating man that I hope you will meet one day my love.

I have made plans for my return voyage and will arrive within a week’s time. My heart is pulled in two opposite directions. Part of me, the motherly side, feels a need to stay with Naji but another and just as strong yearns to be with you once more. I never wish to be apart Rufus. I need you desperately.

Your loving wife,
Sarah

The third letter….

Dearest Rufus,

My return has been delayed. There has been an uprising in Papua, I am sure you have heard of it already. Due to that grim news, traveling so close to that area we are told would be taking an unneeded risk.

The sadness that I feel is overwhelming. My only solace is that I have more time to spend with Naji before departing. My friend has also stayed on and we find our discussions a daily event we both look forward to.

I will let you know when I will be able to leave my love. May the Goddess look over you and protect you with Her grace.

Love,
Sarah

The fourth letter.

Dear Rufus,

It seems I will be returning within a few days. Naji is quite settled and is making headway in his training. The rebellion of Papua has failed and life has returned to normal, there seems to be no reason to linger here.

I have been thinking lately of us. This separation has been so difficult. Yet you have embarked in so many journeys in the past, leaving me behind and sometimes forgotten. I seldom receive a letter from you when you are away, yet I have written almost daily if not every other day…all without any reply from you. Why?

Is it true that out of sight out of mind? Please respond back so I may put this matter to rest.

Your loving wife,
Sarah

Fifth..

Dear Rufus,

Tis been too long without some word from you. I have not heard of any news of the Regent falling ill or being incapacitated in some way as to make it impossible for you to write back.

Perhaps you think I am foolish but my dear friend that has stayed on has advised me. There are several key events that I should have perhaps looked upon in more harsher judgment.

Such as the attempt on my life at the Regency meeting. Just my hired bodyguards from the Dark Order and Legerion showed any concern for my safety. My so-called friends and even my husband continued with the business at hand while I removed myself from harm’s way.

And your need for endless searches that take you from my side for long periods of time. I have been patient and understanding but I have reached a point where I can no longer tolerate such behavior from my husband.

We have much to discuss upon my return Rufus. I am sure that once you talk to my dearest friend and intimate advisor, you will see my point of view more clearly. I know I have seen things much more keenlyas of late.

Sarah

And the last letter in the bundle. A mail pouch that has finally found it's way to the royal palace, home to Sarah and Rufus.

Honorable Regent,

I have set a time for sailing, it will be on the morrow and will arrive in Nujel’m the following evening. Please try to be there, I will be arriving on horseback.

I will not be holding out any hope for such but it is protocol for you to welcome me back. For propriety sake please act as if you still care for your Empress, your wifeand the mother of your son. Obviously to think there was any way I, a mere elf female could compete with your mistress…….the all consuming Regency was just a foolish dream. But even the Regent must realize the importance of making a ‘public show’.

If you refuse to greet me upon my return do not bother to come to Nujel’m. I have been strongly advised to seek solace else where.

Queen Sarah De’Fiona
