|
Crabby sat in his zen garden staring blankly at the water when a model ship floated past and broke his concentration.
He had deep thoughts to work through... well deep for a pirate. He has become more thoughtful after he reformed his life (when he started practicing Bushido and Chivalry). His life has changed to the point that he now worries about breaking the 8 virtues, which never had been a problem before. His pressing thoughts are about Honour, he knows much about it. “It be Truth and Courage”, he mutters to himself.
His dilemma is the battles over land and titles, in which he is a pawn. His Sensei Tai he is honour bound to follow and it is his word make Crabby face friends on the battlefield. He recognises friends on both sides of the battlefield though. His new kind spirit has allowed him to feel compassion for the people of Luna who are in danger still from the petty squabbling of diplomats.
He reflects on, the battle of Luna.
He remembers Lady Tatiana, who has such a good heart; he felt sorrow for her as she helped to build the fortifications to protect the people she loved so dear. He thinks on when he made his way to the fort and observed the rabble that was congressed to defend Luna. Most were mere peasants in armour. All of the City Watch deployed at one end of the fortifications to guard against the tide of combatants. Having fought for the Shadow Claw in the previous battle of Yew, Crabby knew it was just a matter of time before the fortifications failed due to the large army of trained assassins, mercenaries, and barbarians assaulting it. He thinks about the last prayer he muttered to Shamino to guide his bow to valour. He reflects on the eerie feeling just as the battle was about to begin, when he should have to possibly kill someone who he had drank and been jovial with just a few days prior.
His recollection past that point is hazy at best: the rumbling of feet, battle cries of the attackers, tossing a bottle of fire potion into the crowd as they rounded the corner to engage, then having explosions all around that muted the battle to a mere din and finally darkness.
Was it a loss?
Crabby ponders on the reasons why he was there. It was due to honour. Tai had made a promise to help the protectorate when they needed it the most. They called in this promise, which Tai was honour bound to fulfill. That is, as Crabby understands, what was happening now. He has little care for politics, to think people have to lose blood for misunderstandings and greedy diplomats. The evils that corrupt these battles could be present on both sides. Are we doing the Lich Lord’s will by fighting amongst ourselves?
The final thing he thinks on is tavern night, at the Stone Gate Mead Hall, the City Watch was not a welcome sight, as evident by the show of weapons at the door. Calmer heads prevailed and soon Crabby was guzzling his rum and enjoying himself as if he was not surrounded by people who might do him harm... he has been in that position many times before. Tai then asked the Wolf King to talk, so we all walked over to his meeting room where it was quiet... of course Crabby was plastered at that time from drinking way to much rum and can’t quite remember what was said. What he does remember is that the Wolf King is a good talker and has nice clothes.
Crabby then comes to a sharp realization with all this thinking about drinking; the only Reason why he was thinking like this was due to not drinking at all. The itch of sobriety surrounds him and so he quickly pulls out a bottle of his finest rum he has stashed under a rock and guzzles his problems away.
He now sits in the Zen Garden staring at the water, with the calming buzz of rum coursing through his mind erasing the questions that had plagued him. _________________ I Pleadge to Pleasure, Booze, and Treasure. It Be a Pirate's Life Fer Me. |
