I am not exactly sure what's going on with that foot. I count a heal, a ball, an arch... a giant slit, five toes.......
And yet, somehow, I feel as though something is off... |

Foot binding was inherently Chinese.
To my knowledge it was not done in Japan...no less to Geisha. _________________ An artist is a creature driven by demons ~Faulkner

Yeah, wish I had done that to myself when I was an infant. |

Agreed. It is a Chinese in origin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foot_binding _________________

I personally find it a little disturbing that people are finding entertainment value in this. And this is coming from someone with a pretty sick sense of humor.
People who have had this happen, were forced into this torture as children.

It was a big cultural thing. I feel for what they suffered, and am glad they put a stop to it but 1000 years of it went on before it was put to a stop.
And western culture is taught to ridicule and find humor at the things we find odd and disturbing. it's a core part of much of the modern sence of humor.
Sick, twisted, depraved...*shrug*
Any worse than the clowns and jesters that would go on before people were executed to get the crowd into the proper "fun-times" mindset?
Or the spectacle that was the feast of fools. Ever read Hunchback of Notre Dame? The events were fake, the things that went on at the festival, painfully accurate.
Every couple of generations culture changes what is acceptable for humor. Racial epithets and mysogistic attitudes were the norm for entertainment in this country only 50 years ago.
4chan, somethingawful, ytmnd all exist because what has become acceptable in the information age.
All that said, I've learned to pass by what's not funny in my tastes and say nothing unless it's actually harmful or clearly out of line of what is acceptable for regular social norms - which vary depending on the group you're with.
People are gonna make fun of the odd or different. I've learned to mentally censor the herd. _________________
