Thraxas paced the southern most parapet of Covenant Castle, mulling over the latest news...
This was all I need right now... an untimely and ill-placed interruption in my plans. But it is no surprise. I sensed it was coming. It has been all too quiet from without, and the King is perceived as being weak and vulnerable.
He sat down, enjoying the light, somewhat chilling breeze waft across his face.
I must learn the strength and composition of the forces that oppose us. Erinyes can help with that. Yes... she shall be my eyes and ears...
Thraxas lowered his head as a flash of searing pain shot through it...
"Fool! You have wasted your time... our time... and have not completed what I sent you to do!! Instead of crushing the elves and then the humans of that tiny cesspool town, you have spent your time playing games. You have ignored my commands and there is a price to pay for it!
The voice was unmistakably Oggaroth's.
You don't understand!! I need more time. Things must be planned carefully... I...
Silence!! I will hear no more of these pathetic excuses! You have failed me, Anthraxas, and I am very displeased. I shall therefore aid your enemies as I may, to teach you a lesson in obedience!
Thraxas shook his head, cringing at the mention of his true name by one he hated more than any.
But the temple... I made for you... does it mean nothing?!
Do you seriously entertain the idiotic notion that all I care about is monuments to myself?! Can you be so stupid, so clumsy and forgetful, that you can, for one minute, fail to bear in mind that I am concerned only with destruction?! You have not obeyed me in aligning yourself with the followers of Oblivion, whom have always served my ends whether they knew it or not. And you vainly imagine that a few hundred deaths will sate my thirst, my desire, for the complete annihilation of this realm and all that is in it?! You will now lose what you have gained. You will remember from where you have fallen, and obey my voice, or the next stroke shall be upon you. Are my words clear, Anthraxas?
Thraxas winced as the pain intensified. This was the greatest thing he hated about the flesh which he inherited. They are clear, m'lord. I will not fail you again.
See that you do not! I will not warn you again. I am watching you, Anthraxas!
Just as quickly as it appeared, the pain left him. He opened his eyes and stood up. Standing nearby was Erinyes. She had seen everything and her face belied the curiosity of one who meant to know what this was all about... _________________ "If a criminal has what you want, you do business with him." |
