Soren had given up trying to keep her hair out of her eyes. She took it as sign of the day to come. The calluses that covered her hands had grown and popped blisters and her muscles had screamed, “Enough” before dawn ever broke over Umbra. Unable to sleep she had pinned a note to the Manor Board explaining where she was, for Bryelle’s benefit, as well as her own. After her visit to the gypsy camps last night she had gone directly to the stables and paid a fee of room and board for an unknown length of time for her beloved Stormy to stay. With tears glistening in her eyes, now more grey than blue-green, she kissed Stormy’s oversized head and walked away as fast as she could towards the shop. Lady a’Dae had been very nice to her. She had explained how the powder worked and that Soren would be receiving it within 24 hours. It was the rest of the conversation that kept her moving. She didn’t dare slow down. Slowing down, meant breaking down, and breaking down meant the weight of her heart crushing in on her. She had wanted to talk to him, to ask him her questions more than anything last night. That was until the weight of putting him in danger sank in. Moisture now trickled lightly down her cheeks as she wiped her nose with the back of her hand leaving shadow iron smudges across her face. “Stop it, just stop it,” she said to herself. But try as she might, she couldn’t shake the emptiness she had felt since she had walked away from the gypsy camp.
