The mechanical bird flits to the front steps of the largest building in Stonegate and drops a bone scroll case.

Inside is a scroll of very fine vellum sealed with red wax marked with a gear.

The scroll is written in a very light hand and elegant script.

To the Wolf King,

I have had some time to review your statements in the letter to me, as well as gather dated missives from the administrative changes in Umbra.

I now understand your anger and resentment directed at Darrien Church, and to that end, perhaps those associated with him.

I had an encounter with Merci, and a few others of Stonegate in the Tavern of Moonglow, and it was quite enlightening. It appears we have a bit more in common than I was led to believe. I may have listened to the whisperings of the the land, rather than make a decision based on first hand experience.

To that end, I may have misjudged you and yours. I should like to meet and speak with you or your advisors, on a personal level.

Unfortunately, timing is not kind. There is the spectre of the events in Luna, that may lead you to believe that my actions are guided by that, rather than my own devices and desires. If you truly believe that it my motivation, or do not believe we can have a civil discourse, then there is no need to waste either of our times.

If you have a date or time that would be best, a response put it in this case and set it in the snow will be returned to me. If you think there is nothing to say, fire an arrow at my orthon as it circles your skies, it will return to me, your answer clear.

Walk in Darkness,

Dealthagar

Though of late Myrddin rarely felt he had the free time to sit still, a welcomed rare moment of peace had found him.

It was late and he was exhausted from training, but not so tired that he wished to sleep. His mind was busy planning the next move, motivated by the series of optimistic events that had taken place in only a few days time.

Looking about his office, the Wolf King's eyes came to rest on the letter that was beginning to collect dust. After a momentary pause, he leaned forward, speaking to himself.

Why Not.

=====================================

Herald of Umbra,

I realize it has been some time since you wrote me, but it is my intent that you receive a response none the less.

It is good to hear that you have made an effort to come to understand why I and my people are so at odds with Umbra. I must admit of course that I am still very skeptical, though it may be indeed that you are a changed man.

The very path that has brought us to this point makes me question why the fierce loyalty that was present before would be put aside now so that we might speak. I cannot imagine that your fellow Umbrans would share your sentiments even if your views have changed.

There is also the matter of previous delegates from Umbra having contacted me solely to pass on a rather loathsome poisons. I do not assume that this is your task, but I would be a fool not to take precautionary measures.

When I served Umbra it was something very different than it is now. I realize of course that the Umbra I knew is gone and I would not waste my time trying to make it as it was...but I still do not agree with nor support the rule of Darrien Church and the Order of Oblivion.

There is little possibility that I could ever look upon the Order with favor.

Having said that, however, should you wish to speak I would do so. I will halt hostility for the duration of any conversation we might engage in and would see that no matter the result, lest it end in what I believe to be a threat, that you are not prevented from leaving just as you came.

If you are willing to allow me to choose the location myself, I will meet with you.

Tomorrow eve time should be no obstacle.

If this is not possible, a later date may be arranged.

May Destiny foretell,

Myrddin ab'Arawn
The Wolf King

The mechanical bird flits to the front steps of the building in Stonegate the scroll case was retrieved from.

Inside is a scroll virtually identical to the first.

Your Majesty,

The fact my orthon did not return gave me hope.

I am many things, but first and foremost, I consider myself a scholar. In my zeal to defend what is dear to me, research was overlooked in the name of expediancy.

You would be a fool not to be sceptical. I have a lengthy history of treachery, just ask GreyPawn. You are right to doubt me, and I would not fault you for it. Never-the-less, my intent is simple: I wish to begin mending the rift. Perhaps it is not possible, but I would be a fool not to try. I do not believe either of us are fools.

I come to speak with you as an individual. As an Ancient of the Order, I have some sway with Umbra and the Order's relations, but Lady Ariana Lenoire, Dread Lady of Umbra, would be the official diplomat to speak to. I would be honored to act as an advisor to her, once you and I have had a chance to speak.

It is one thing to look upon the Order with favor. It is another thing entirely, as they say, to "agree to disagree".

If you and your men are anything, you are honorable. My observations of Merci and others in public, as well as the time I spend with your mother show this to be true. If you tell me I may come and leave unmolested, you may choose any place of your liking. Tomorrow will be difficult, the timing would be critical. The later in the evening, the better. if that ends up not being possible, I will make myself available to you, at your leisure.

I look forward to finally speaking with you in person.
