Merci climbed once more the wintry mountains of Tokuno. Every year she made her trek here, always new truths were revealed to her. The frost was sharp and she breathed in the cold silence draining all that she could as each hand met a stone grasp. Merci had long since left the trail, her spot was hidden and closed in. A small cave in the side of the mountain welcomed her once more.
She lay down on the cold snow floor and the icicles sparkled high above her staring down each one threatening. At any moment with a touch of warmth the deadly daggers could fall and rend thru her body tearing thru her flesh, impaling her against the floor. She stared up her heart pounding in her chest. She was changing and the blood in her veins moved fast the frozen cold encouraging it as she slowly recharged herself in the icy cold.
She heard the soft driftings of the ladys of snow as they wandered about the mountain paths from time to time moving silently in the cave to peer down at her. She turned her head only to be met face to face with one as it lay next to her, the ghostly woman pale, cold, perfect. She felt her hot blooded emotions and temper leave her she felt the numbing chill refill her once more.
The Lady Spoke: Winter returns...
Merci closed her eyes the cold growing about her and feeling the surge of energy as it grew up from the lands. Aye...a gift to me, winter always brings.
The Ladies mouth opened wide a shadowy cloud exhaling from it the words echoing in the small cave. I know your secret...it weighs on your mind.
Merci's eyes widened as she realized how obvious her meditations had become. For his own sake, for both their sakes, they must not know.
That burden is to great Merci d'Rue.
She closed her eyes, I have always loved Keldril, I can not. I have promised. She looked next to her and the lady of snow was gone. An icy cocoon grew over her and she closed her eyes rest at last coming to her. _________________ May destiny guide you... |
