If any expected to set foot into Umbra and expect a traditional or fair fight from those of the Order of the Ebon Skull, they were to be sorely mistaken. The time spent under the rule of the Lich Lord had once again reminded the people of Umbra of the power and influence of the dark necromancers of Oblivion. As Izrem shouted from him makeshift pulpit, reminding the people of not only their duty to the standing government but of the dangers coming in the form of outside forces. Raising up the proclamation of the Wolf King, he connected the dots it their increasingly paranoid and suspicious minds, declaring it as a presage to an invasion. They came to draw blood and enact slaughter against the people for the sake of their own ambitions. He reminded them of the bloodless revolution that had returned Umbra to the care of Oblivion. Of how Shalcross had granted the Lich Lord the land without a single drop of blood spilt in conflict. Oblivion had preserved them and now Stonegate and Tokunese desired to murder them.
It was an easy matter to weave an image of the Blue Lotus as a vile and despicable group. The natural xenophobia of the Umbran people, coupled with multiple denoucements of the Tokuneses concept of "honor" as mere convenience drove an almost unreasoning dislike and hatred against the clan of "nightstalking backstabbers", as they were soon to be called.
Stonegate had been a bit more of an issue however. Some Umbrans recalled the rule of the Realm of Umbra with a hint of nostaliga if not outright favor. Their time spent with Ceinwyn, the D'rues and other members of families now associated with Stonegate lead a few to believe that perhaps they could still be talked with. Reasoned with. Izrem looked to these optimists with a mixed sense of disappointment and acquiescence. While he would never state so openly, he had no particular antipathy for Stonegate or its people, no matter how they felt about him. In an easier time perhaps things could have been somewhat more affable, but that time was gone and there was no room for such weakness. Mentally marking the peoples faces and names, he smiled to them as they voiced their beliefs, stating in return that he respected their beliefs, but also that they should be careful. For while they may see a peaceful resolution, the coming armies, scouts and assassins would not be nearly as inclined to show them kindness and mercy.
Returning once again to his laboratory he placed the names of the names of those who seemed unwilling to follow the current tide of opinion onto a list. Dividing them up he drew several of the names and listed them as under suspicion for espionage and to place them in the care of Dealthagar. Those with much more boistrous opinions would be collected by the wraiths and charged with treason. The evidence of their crimes would produce itself in short order.
The last six names left on the list, however, Izrem saved. Recalling their faces he mulled over his next move. "While the others may meet a much more ignoble end, you six shall serve Oblivion in a great and fantastic way. What I have planned for you will make you the grandest of martyrs. And then? No army who steps into this city will find a single place to lay their head without the fear of never waking again." _________________ Femmies?! HOWAH!
