No matter what he did, or where he went, Scar could not get her off his mind.

Erinyes was unlike any woman he had ever met or seen, and that was saying a lot. His prowess as a womanizer had earned him widespread ire in Papua among honorable married couples and equal envy from single males. He always had enough skill, time and necessities to get who he wanted when he wanted, most of the time... and he was never out any gold except to keep a few special ladies happy with the occasional bauble or gift.

But she was different. Instead of charming her, she had charmed him. If he didn't know better, and he didn't, he might believe she had cast a spell upon him.

It was getting late. The sun had set over the distant palm and cypress trees outside his office window. The sound of crickets chirping and the buzzing bugs hovering around the candlelight at his desk was growing louder and more annoying by the minute. What paperwork remained of the day's activities in Papua: purchase and sales invoices, commissions, reports, and business in general... could wait till tomorrow. Although he did not tire readily, nor sleep unless he willed it, he was quite exhausted today and decided to go home to lie down. He blew out the candles, said his goodbyes to the town officials downstairs, and departed for Covenant Castle.

She wasn't there, as usual. He had no idea where she stayed. When he saw her it was mostly at random times of day. She would smile, offer a simple greeting, and turn away. He had asked her to visit with him in his room once before and she had accepted. The more they talked, the more mesmerized by her he became... intrigued... and the fact that she was stunningly beautiful only made her that much more desirable. He almost felt out of his league, and that, too, disturbed him. Since then she had turned down his offers, in kind but deliberate fashion, to get to know each other better. He wasn't used to that and it stung his pride, but he held on and kept trying despite it all.

He enterd his room, lit the fire in the fireplace, and removed his armor and clothing, flinging them carelessly into a corner. Then he stretched out upon his bed and stared at the flickering lights and darting shadows on the ceiling until he at last drifted off to sleep...

Long shadows fell across the floor of Scar's room one of them in particular lengthening. Erinyes form sprung up from it silently. It was just a shadowy figure not her fleshy body, and she moved close to his bed. She stood over him and stared down again seeing things that Scar did not himself realize were visible to her naked eye.

In her shadow form she could see an aura around him, a connection between he and his clan perhaps. His clan in papua? She wasnt sure. Yet it was information she was after. Thraxas had asked it. Yet these things werent easy, they were to be handled delicately, she needed to make him want to divulge it. Weaken his mind a bit.

As she looked upon him now he was within a dreamless sleep. The shadow pressed a dark kiss to his cheek, featherlite, he stirred a bit but settled back into slumber.

Scar sat up in his bed, he felt rested better indeed, full of energy and ready for another day. He headed off to Papua, yet something bothered him, for the morning sun was dark. In fact the more he gazed upon the sun his mind realized it was but a moon shining down upon him and the morning had not even arrived. Confusion struck him, had he awoken after only a few hours of sleep?

He continued his path heading towards his office his mind considering the days events, he eyed a few small children playing off to the side of the road and noticed a dark haired child pale and delicate. Her eyes turned upon him and in flash he was sitting in his office, not remembering how he got there.

There was music playing outside the window, a tune he could not understand but it was peaceful and alluring, it turned his mind once more to Erinyes. He felt as if he could sit and listen to the music forever but shaking his head he returned to his task taking up his favorite quill he began to write on the parchment. The ink normally black turned red and dropped tiny splotches across the page.

It was then that he noticed that it was not the pen the red liquid was coming from his arm, the entire thing ripped open blood pouring out of it. He let out a roar an inhuman roar and stood from his chair. The walls shook the facades of buildings falling away the land of papua fading from his sight. Blood spilling into his vision, he was being attacked by some unknown force blind anger rising up inside him.

The feeling, anger lasting long within him....

Scar suddenly sat up in his bed, the room silent.

His body and the bed where he lay was soaked with sweat. He felt an involuntary impulse to cry out and shapeshift; to go on some wild, mad, hunting spree. The emotion was so powerful that he had to fight to keep it at bay, remembering the words of Merci, his mentor, that control was the only thing that kept Lycans from going rogue, separating them from the mindless beasts that stalked their prey on moonlit nights.

As he fought for that very control, his mind was a whirl of emotions... mainly anger... the source of which he could not quickly identify. He rose from the bed, dressed himself and walked down the long hallway. Erinyes' room lay on the opposite end, concealed by the standard crimson and black curtains characteristic of the decor demanded by Thraxas for his new acquisition.

With one hand he pushed back the curtain slightly and peered inside. His excellent night vision unfailingly showed him all that lay within...

Scar saw nothing there... literally nothing. It looked as if no one had inhabited the room for months. The dust lay thick upon the desk and small table; the bed sheets were unruffled and had their own thin layer of dust on them. Cobwebs filled every corner of the room and the air was stale almost to the point of being noxious.

It didn't make sense. He had seen her go into the room several times. He shook his head and went back down the long corridor to his own room where he lay back down on his bed.

"Who is she?" he kept asking himself over and over again.

He was sleeping again feverishly and the shadow appeared at his side. Her hand came to rest on his forehead. Fevered dreams, she could feel his emotions growing the power of them tempting.

Her hand ran down his cheek and her body materialized a black robe covering her. Pale skin cool and soft running in waves over bone and muscle. The dark hair and black eyes gave way to the meanings of the shadows as she stared down at Scar.

It was as if he could sense her there and his eyes opened staring up at her. In her hand she had a glass of water he swore hadnt been there before and she brought it to his lips.

Scar I think you are growing ill, I saw you visit my room the other night but your eyes were glassy as if they didnt even see me? Are you walking in your sleep?

Her voice had just the right touch of concern. He relaxed drinking down the water as if he were in a desert she smiled. Sitting in the chair next to his bed. He felt better, calmer with her about. He slipped into a silent sleep at ease at last but craving her company all the more...
