Thrax, the dispossessed and former master of Alderglen surveyed the Academy building from the outside, having been taken on a grand tour of the entire facility. He was impressed, though he tried hard to conceal any visible sign of it from his guide, Archwarden Itannar. "You and my brother have stolen my dream, you know," he commented ruefully. "This was supposed to be my own creation."

Unfazed, Itannar nodded. "You should think of it as your dream alive. Besides, the originator of an idea is not necessarily the owner of it. Why can't you be happy in the knowledge that it now exists, whereas it did not?"

"You sound like my brother, You two seem to be alike in many ways."

Stung by the insult, Itannar sighed. "I am nothing like him and you know that. I know what he is."

Thrax laughed. "Oh you do, do you? What then? A homicidal maniac? A megalomaniac?"

"He is your twin, not mine."

"Then you know he is a daemon?"

Itannar paid no attention to the charge, thinking he was metaphorically speaking.

"He is you know!"

"He is what?"

"A daemon!!"

"Don't insult my intelligence."

Thrax turned to face him. "I thought a paladin could tell! It's true! He is a daemon... well... not like the usual kind... he has the body of a man, but a daemon's soul!"

Becoming interested, Itannar gave Thrax his full attention, folding his arms at his chest. "You must mad! That's impossible!"

"Normally I would agree. But he did not come to be by normal means: he was not summoned. He was the daemon that inhabited my own body and often fought for control of me. Oggaroth divested me of him and made me mortal. Ceinwyn had some of my blood, and used it to create a new body... a perfect copy of mine. Oggaroth gave the daemon the rights to that body and so he came to be. Ask her if you do not believe me!"

"How do you know this?"

"He was arrogant enough to tell me. He wanted half of all I owned as a result. I refused him and he had me banished with help from ... nevermind... it is lost on you. What do you care anyway?"

Itannar unfolded his arms and glared at him. "What do I care?!! A daemon rules Yew if what you say is true! My homeland is under the domination of a minion of Oggaroth!"

Thrax chuckled. "Isn't it odd? For years I sought that power; then I reformed myself and relinquished that desire."

The Archwarden was too concerned, worried, to hear him. "What is his name... his daemon name?"

"I do not know. I wish I did. Of course he would never have told me, or anyone else. To know a daemon's name is to have power over them... at least in most cases."

Itannar's mind was racing. This new thing was more than a mystery... it was soul shattering news, if it were true. But the half-elf was cagey; he knew Thrax very well. He surmised the information might be false and directed his way only to make him the enemy of the Lord Regent, to do Thrax's dirty work for him. He turned back around to look at the building. "Why don't you kill him then?" he asked.

"I wish I could! I am seeking help from the Heartwood elves, but not for that. I am hoping with their help, he might be discredited and deposed."

"You tread on dangerous ground, my old enemy. Be careful."

"I am to meet with them tomorrow. Care to accompany me?"

Itannar shook his head. "No thank you. I want no part of your machinations. I am happy here and mean to keep things that way. If you are smart, you will take what you have and enjoy it while you can."

Thrax shrugged. "With or without you, things will change soon. You'll see." He smiled to himself, then became serious. "You will not tell my brother, will you? Give me your word of honor."

"My word is my honor... something you could never understand, I'm sure. I will keep your secret... for now. Just stay out of trouble and my way."

Concluding the conversation and the tour, they bade their farewells and returned to their respective homes.
