A long time ago, on my blog I put together a list of 13 quotes that inspired me. So the eleven people who said these things, would most likely be my role models. (Two people on my list were notable enough to have two quotes.)

Edit: Realizing that not everyone is as much of a history buff as I am, and that some of our readers may not be American, and some of our American readers may not know who some of the non-Americans are...I turned each of the names to a link to the wikipedia page on the person. The quotes are important, but the quotes speak of the manner of person, and that's where the role model part comes in.

OMG I made the post educational. It's like schoolhouse rock comes to UO or something.

13 - "It ain't those parts of the Bible that I can't understand that bother me, it is the parts that I do understand." - Mark Twain

12 - "I don't know who my grandfather was; I am much more concerned to know what his grandson will be." - Abraham Lincoln

11 - "You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life." - Winston Churchill

10 - "If everyone is thinking alike, then somebody isn't thinking." - General George S. Patton

9 - "Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning." - Albert Einstein

8 - "We would accomplish many more things if we did not think of them as impossible." - Vince Lombardi

7 - "Loyalty to the country always. Loyalty to the government when it deserves it." - Mark Twain

6 - "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance" - Thomas Jefferson

5 - "Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both." - Benjamin Franklin

4 - "That which does not kill us makes us stronger." - Friedrich Nietzsche

3 - "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing" - Edmund Burke

2 - "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants" - Thomas Jefferson

1 - "The depth and strength of a human character are defined by its moral reserves. People reveal themselves completely only when they are thrown out of the customary conditions of their life, for only then do they have to fall back on their reserves." - Leon Trotsky

As weird as it sounds, I grew up admiring Mr. Spock from the original series.
He had the best quotes and such a sound mind. Then when I was about ten, along came Yoda.

As far as 'real' role models, I guess I would be hard pressed to pick one but here goes.
St. Francis of Assisi. Nuff said.

George Carlin has always been a person that I admired and respected. Taught me how to look at things how they really are instead of how they are "supposed" to be.
Ian Anderson the composer/singer of Jethro Tull. His creativity and vision has inspired me for years.
Robert Downey Jr. - Shows how someone can hit absolute bottom and rekindle his life to be legendary.

Role Models:

Two people were key role models in my life, My Great Grandmother Harriet, My mother in law Carolyn. I admired them for thier strength. They taught me to flow with changes, to be practical, down to earth, to use common sense and importantly the value of an imagination. They always encouraged me when others didnt. I know they are my guardians that watch over me everyday the little whispers in my ear, you can do it, you shouldnt do that.. They are a part of me now.

Who I admire greatly:

I admire greatly my sister Elizabeth, Sia and YIa, for the strength she has overcoming her difficulties with Autism. She is changing the world and peoples beleifs about Autism and in that she is helping Autistic people around the world. Her openness with this community her ability to make mistakes and learn to move past them. She isnt afraid of what you all think of her, she has made numerous friends here and I have learned that many of you are very very good people you treat her with dignity and respect and have looked past her difficulties. She had a very rough childhood she was picked on in school, beaten up by lots of bullies. She always came back fighting. I recall in kindergarten it began, a first grader decided to make mince meat of her. It was easy pickins she was a tiny pale, kindergardner. He was a huge (to her) bully, for weeks she would come home crying about him picking on her and pushing her and being mean. Finally enough was enough, the next time he attacked her she punched him right in the face, he lost his two front teeth. His parents called mine complaining, the school was mad that she had done it. We didnt care, and he didnt pick on her again.

I admire Willow and Yasa because, Even when many many people in my life turned their backs on me, they loved me accepted me and helped me thru a rough time. They helped me make the choices that were right for me and see that my children are my number one priority.

I admire greatly Myrddin and Toren, these men have given me a chance, they taught me to fight, to rp, they have believed in my ideas. I drag them both thru hell and back all the time and they are always still there.

Cear, Dav, Fiona and the rest of the vent crew, you guys have been different and not afraid to be so, made me laugh, and tried to cheer me up when I am down.

RP admiration goes out to:

Bish and Blue Lotus I also want to commend you guys on giving Tokuno some good history since EA cheated you all out of it.

The Undead, Sanctus, I admire for sticking to their ideals and not bending. We all need conflict.

Marion Zimmer Bradley, Anne McCaffrey, Robert Heinlein, L.M. Montgomery, and my Father.

My favorite quote is from the book Anne Of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery, "Tomorrow is always fresh with no mistakes in it."

My father had a firm belief of, "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch. You will always have to pay a price. It may not be money but eventually you will have to pay with something." Combine that with his 180% all the time work ethic. He has always been the only person besides myself who can cross a Machine shop that is a minimum of 150 yards in less than a minute. Unfortunately our mouths tend to run as fast as our feet.

Well... the person I admired the most in my life was my Grandma Carolyn. Yes, the very same Carolyn in Merci's post. My grandmother had a tremendous amount of love. it didn't matter if you were blood, step or polka dotted. Once you had relation to our family that was that. Everyone was equal to her in her eyes. Never was her love divided. My grandmother was all those things mentioned in Merci's post and more. I often called her my muse or my inspiration. She taught me so many life lessons I'll never forget. I hope to have just a fraction of the compassion and love she had.

Then of course there's Aubria. No matter the fix I have gotten myself in she's right there helping me through any way she can telling me it's ok and we'll get through this.

Liz, I admire your spirit for everything. You set your own limits and to hell with the consequces.

Alex, your rationality when times are chaotic and hostile. You are always a reasonable voice when all others have been shut out.

Doug, you are always amaze me with your ability to roll with the hand that life deals you no matter how crappy.

All of your have a not so secret admirer now. Muahahahahahahahahaha

Thanks SiaYia, I'm honored.

I'm inspired by many of my friends and family and the list would be a mile long if I wrote it all out.

However, as far as role models? As odd as it might be to say, I have to say my children... although, I suppose most would say I should be their role model (and I hope I am). Their fantastic outlook on life even in the face of devastating news just makes me inspired to always try to see the good in life, despite what is going on. Sometimes all we really need out of life to really -live-, is what we have and not what we don't have.
