The temperature had fallen more as the year ebbed on. It was in the caves in the mountains of Stonegate that Alaundril, the sole drow in Stonegate had sought solace and relief. The snows had fallen heavier, the glare proved be more than the old Drow could stand. The bitter cold added more suffering to an already depressing situation. He had been forced to seek refuge in these dark caves. They provided more warmth than the sun at this time of the year. The the cursed sun...this was his only refuge from its burning glare off constant floor of white snow. His eyes had stopped bleeding from the unfamiliar light. But the cold sapped him to the core.
I left the desert for this hell? No refuge to speak of except for this moldly smelly cave. I've had slaves that have had better quarters than this.
Alaundril looked around the small cavern he had made his home, many of his personal effects were set about. A desk for his work and writing, his weapons and stacks of maps and papers. It had been weeks since he had been able to go to the surface. Even at night, the Moonlight caused him pain. It reflected almost as badly as the sun, in a time when his eyes begged for reprieve. In addition, Alaundril had taken ill with some vile sickness from the surface. It kept him here in his....pit.
There was no better way to describe this place that he lived in. His body shook from fever, thankfully, the blindness had passed from his last attempt to leave this place and speak to the King and Oracle. But this cold had pushed his body farther than he had known. He coughed heavily and sipped a foul mixture he had concocted to ease his cough. But it did little for his fever that seemed to finally be breaking. He pulled the bear skin blanked around him as he sat before the fire. For the first time in weeks he felt as if he could actually think, maybe when night fell, he could make his way out of this smelly cave and into more appropriate quarters for one of his station. Perhaps for his allies here, living in a cave like an animal may be to their liking. But not him. Not a drow.
