I feel your pain. I had to buy a new one recently, once the elite price dropped to 300.
But now you can get an elite for 250 bucks for a limited time (you get a 50 dollar mail in rebate). Just go to this site:
http://www.xbox.com:80/en-US/hardware/360eliterebate/default.htm
I'm kind've annoyed since I just bought one in late August and can't get this rebate. But meh, 50 bucks isn't a huge deal to me. I mean it is, but it's not worth the hassle of returning mine and buying a new one and all that. |

My Xbox has gone up at least three times. Maybe four, can't really remember. Eventually I'll get an elite though if you can transfer over your gamertag and memory. |

Yeah you can. You gotta call Microsoft and ask for a transfer cable. You're supposed to get it for free if you bought an elite (I got mine for free), but they're going to try and tell you you need to pay like 13 bucks for it. Just argue with them and repeatedly tell them you see it's offered for free online (there is a site for it specifically stating it's free, just can't remember it right now).
And you don't need a transfer cable to put your gamertag on another hard drive. You just retrieve it from the main menu somewhere; you can do it on any system. But the transfer cable is nice for transferring DLC and saved files and such. I actually just transferred everything over finally and it went smoothly. |

just go for the normal 360 for 199, and use your current hard drive. can someone tell me the difference between the elite and the normal? _________________ It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds. - Samuel Adams |

The elite is a tad faster and more reliable as Microsoft has touched it up a lot so it's less prone to the RROD. Plus it's black and sexy and comes with a 120 GB hard drive. That's a pretty sweet deal for only 250 bucks right now, which was the same price as a Wii (which also recently just got cut to 200).
The bigger hard drive is a huge perk for me. I've been living with the 20 GB one forever now so it'll be nice to be able to actually install a lot of my games into the hard drive so they'll run faster and smoother.
Oh, and the "normal," aka the Pro, isn't being made anymore and once they're gone, they're gone. I already know some places that have sold out of them and won't be getting any more. Microsoft is trying to clean their shelves of them, so there will only be the Arcade (still 200, which totally baffles me since it doesn't even come with a hard drive and isn't backwards compatible) and the Elite. |

I feel ya Isk Microsoft may be HQ'd here in Washington but I had to mail my dead one to Texas to get fixed. They sent me a new one though instead of fixing the old. |
