"One minute I held the key,
Next the walls were closed on me,
And I discovered that my castle stands,
Upon pillars of salt, and pillars of sand. "

Rage.

Ariana's mind swelled with the emotion as it crashed upon her like waves upon a jagged shoreline. Her years of training crumbled under the furious tidal surge as the intensity of it nearly brought her to her knees. She walked unseen through the city of Umbra, her normal graceful stride mutilated into almost the predatory stalk of a carnivore in human form.

"All t'at I 'ave worked t'accomplish.... Everythin'... 'as been torn asunder because t'at bastard 'ad t'go an' get killed. He was supposed t'be immortal. He was supposed t'live forever. How the 'ell am I goin' t'get my deserved reward if'n he isn't 'ere t'deliver it on'ta me now?, " Ariana fumed silently. "This is unacceptable. I will nay 'ave the fruits o' my labor stolen away from me by some gold-cloaked pain in my ass and some mangy mutt. How dare t'ey interfere wit' my plans..."

She passed by the bank still lost in her raging thoughts, "I'll be damned if'n I am goin' t'give up wit'out a fight. Let t'e rest o' t'em roll o'er an' 'ave their bellies rubbed inta pacification, I will nay stand f'this. This is my life they are fracking wit' an' t'ey 'ave nay idea w'at I am capable o'. I will nay 'ave 'im taken away from me. They donnae' 'ave any idea jus' who t'ey are fracking wit."

She let her manicured nails drag heavily across the wooden railing as she crossed the southeasten bridge out of Umbra. "Death itself will be answerin' t'me when I go down an' drag w'at remains o' his damned soul back t'us. I will get w'at I deserve... an' s'will t'ey."

"Catherine... Say goodbye t'Shiori. She has t'elp yer mother wit' somethin'."

Catherine turned her head to look at the older tokunese woman who was standing across the room. She extended a tiny hand towards her, opening and clenching it several times in a child-like wave. "Bye Bye, Shi Shi." The child then extended her index finger to point to the woman and looked up at Ariana as she asked, "When come back?"

Ariana returned her daughter's gaze for a moment before kissing her daughter on the cheek and ignoring the child's question, "Ye are t'go with Miss Asteby an' Mister De'Vante. Ye will behave f'them won't ye, m'princess?" The little girl's brow furrowed at the parental sidestep, but Ariana smiled calmly and spoke in a reassuring tone, "I will come t'see ye later. Miss Asteby said she would try t'find ye a pony if'n ye are a good girl. Ye will be a good girl, won't ye precious."

The child's blue eyes lit up at the mention of a pony and smiled brightly, "Yes, Mama. I be good girl."

Ariana leaned closer and kissed her once more upon the cheek, "That's m'girl." She then passed her to the side where Tierna took her into her waiting arms.

The child frowned a moment as if realizing the pass off and her cherub face began to scrunch up as her brow furrowed. However, before she could raise a fuss, the child's new governess expertly interjected. She spoke in a crisp voice with each word pronounced effortlessly and yet with a sense of control that spoke of years of strict study, "Come, Your Highness. You must not allow yourself to be upset. Say goodbye so that we might see to this pony."

The child frowned for a moment longer and then visibly sighed as if she realized there was nothing to be gained by a tantrum,. She looked at Ariana, "Bye, Mama. Loves you, " as she brought a tiny fist to her mouth, smacked her lips against it and tossed the phantom kiss towards her mother. Ariana simply smiled with a gentle nod of her head at the gesture. Tierna then pivoted on her heel and walked out of the manor as Adonias followed closely behind with one hand already on his kryss before he got past the door.
