Blackrock? Damn! Why had he considered it sooner? The possibility for using such an unpredictable yet powerful reagent may indeed have the power to damage the wards. At least bring them down long enough for a sustained strike. Not enough to push into the Lich Lord's lair, certainly not. That was so heavily and complexly warded that the Lich could build himself a new fortress and move before he could be personally attacked ... probably. But still, the rest of Charnel Hill? Perhaps....

Izrem paced the halls of his newly formed laboratory. Ever since the Orcs had vacated the spot, Izrem had been given a chance to increase the size of his research stations. It was already bearing fruit, though Izrem wondered why the protective runes and wards often seemed to bleed. Perhaps something big the Orcs had done here? Or a LOT of small things? But now he needed to put several of his small projects on hold. The news the spies had brought from the Protectorate meeting was worrisome. Blackrock was truly a dangerous alchemical element that defied most analysis. Izrem had heard of Spawn's tinkering with the material years before and the disastrous results. Did the mercenary Cal Hurst know how to wield it effectively enough to smash through the wards Izrem has so meticulously produced and reinforced? The mercenary was something an an enigma to Izrem. Was he really the callous and flippant mercenary he made himself out to be? Or an extremely discerning and keen arcanist?

In any case, it was a risk Izrem could not allow to let stand so openly. If Cal Hurst and others truly knew how to wield blackrock, there was no ward that Izrem could produce short of opening a well to Oblivion that would suck up the attack. And that was beyond his knowledge, not to mention highly likely to backfire. Izrem ascended to the top story of his new domicile and entered the second most heavily warded spot in Charnel Hill, the Entropy Field Generator. It was incomplete, even though it already cast a massive barrier over the entirety of Charnel Hill and parts of Umbra. Izrem had been taking his time, but time seemed to be a luxury that he was running out of. He needed to complete it soon. Even at its full power it wouldn't be able to stop blackrock from bringing down the fields for a short time, but it would be costly to the attackers to do so. And they would have to reinvoke and spend a considerable quantity of blackrock with each attempt. Furthermore, the hapless Orcs who camped in Umbra would become unwitting fuel for future projects.

Moving to his desk, he immediately penned several letters to several luminaries outside of the Undead. Soon after he sent whispers upon the ethereal winds to several of his Brothers within the Undead cult. There was much to be done, and little time to do it.
