Thraxas left the meeting with the paladin wondering if he had not blundered. Itannar had already made a list of demands...

"The estate and surrounding lands of Alderglen must be returned to me entire and intact. The deed must be signed over to me and my kin in perpetuity."

"The Academy of Alderglen, a superb idea of your brother's, will be rebuilt and classes will begin in the Fall."

"I will not be asked to do anything that goes against my principles, the Virtues."

"The only ones with more authority in the governance of Yew than me shall be yourself and King Sid."

"I will be a servant of the people of Yew, and will not permit them to be enslaved by anybody."

On the other hand, and to keep his pride intact, Thraxas stated his own terms:

"If I am to move from Alderglen, then I must be allowed to set up my new headquarters and that shall be at Covenant Castle. I will need to do this to conduct business of state and to entertain officials. I must have full charge of that establishment."

"You (Itannar) must vacate the Castle and live in your new lands, at the estate in Alderglen."

"The name of 'Alderglen,' shall remain and shall not be changed, amended, or altered in any fashion."

"You will not go over my head in either discussing policies of state with foreigners, or the King, but will work with me and through me to satisfy all official transactions, policies, requirements and demands that I may make with you, in which you may disagree."

They had both agreed to these terms and Thraxas promised to have them drawn up into a contract.

As he mused over these things, and made his preparations to move, he knew only time would tell if this decision to have a paladin as a "front man" was a wise one, or if it would lead eventually to his undoing.

Before that happens, I will surely see him dead.
