So, my favorite part of everything UO related is RPing, but I always seem to find myself alone, hopping from place to place, trying to find someone to interact with.

So, some point last night, I had an idea. But, I figured I'd run the idea through here to see the initial feelings on it before I did any work towards it.

I'd gather a bunch of communication crystals and runes. Link the crystals in such a way that anyone could come to my house (which is very easily accessable) and talk into one of the crystals. That crystal would be linked to a reciever in each RP tavern. If any is there (assuming they want to company... Razz

) they respond with another sender crystal located next to the reciever. A rune to each tavern back at my house, along with a Recall scroll vendor, if need be, provides the transportation.

Now, this might seem a bit complicated, and I was told "just use ICQ", but I don't have everyone's ICQ, and don't really want them, to be honest. That's a lot of people. Plus, I'm hoping (if it all works like I hope) this could really increase spontaneous RPing.

So... any insight?

Sounds like an interesting idea if it'd work, I'm personally broken and can't be heard over comm. crystals... But I think the BL GM would agree with this idea.

Well, I already ran into my first snag. Comm crystal's can't be secured, only locked down. Meaning, they can't be turned off or on while locked down.

I'm thinking if I made a little closet area for each crystal, the sealed off area would prevent any random noise getting to the crystal, but still don't know how could make it work for the sender crystals at the locations.

Comm crystals will pick up any text on its screen, regardless if it's through walls or not.

When some of us were ill with Kael's disease we had our meeting through comm crystals. The healthy people were in the dojo and me and Soke were in the meeting room..

Best bet is if theres open rp going on anywhere, to post it in hoots and hollers. people who use RSS feeds will know its happening immediatly. and others will read the boards eventually and find out. and spread word on an individual basis.
