“Sanctus?! “ Ladron could not believe what he had just heard. “Why would you go to them of all people?! I have told you time and time again that those necro-hating fearmongers are not to be counted as allies. “

Ladron was nearly trembling with rage and his face was a mask of both anger and disbelief.

"Does the Matron know you spoke with them? Does your “Boss”?”

Kinn kept his typically calm demeanor and merely shrugged his shoulders at his brother as he casually took a seat in Ladron’s overstuffed study chair.

“Relax, brother. I did not tell them about you and no, the Matron does not know. The Boss,” Kinn paused for a few moments and tapped his chin as if in deep thought “…well, I suspect he knows that I would do this. He saw my anger when he showed me the Lich’s decree against the Drow. He would assume I would consider a broad range of actions.”

Kinn paused again as if deciding how much more information he should share with his brother.

“Besides, Sanctus is only the first contact I have made. I intend to extend the same offer I gave to Lord Skyfire of Sanctus to both the Protectorate and Stonegate. Each of them considers the Lich an enemy, so each of them is potentially a new Drow ally. The Boss agrees with me on that point, I am sure.”

If it were possible for a Drow to turn red with anger Ladron would have turned red as a dragon after hearing his brother’s last words.

“The Protectorate?! First Sanctus and now the Protectorate?! You have truly lost your mind, brother!” Ladron was screaming now. He could feel the dark power welling within him, fueled by his rage. He was sorely tempted to send a pain spike into his brother then and there.

“Easy brother.” Kinn knew Ladron well enough to know when a spell was about to come his way, “You don’t want to do anything…foolish…now, do you?”

Ladron never saw Kinn draw a shuriken from his belt, but there it was in his hand. Ladron knew how accurate Kinn was with the weapon and that it was undoubtedly coated with some form of nasty poison. Ladron let the magic within him fade, but not his anger.

“What was I supposed to do?” Kinn’s was obviously the one who was upset now, “I asked you to help us and you would not. You wanted to leave the Lich alone. You did not want to get involved with the business of the Umbran Drow. You couldn’t be bothered with the Matron, The Boss..or even your own brother! And now he has all but declared the Drow an enemy and still you want to just leave him be? I will not stand by while he issues edicts against the Drow and tells what we can and cannot do in the Shadows! That is OUR realm! He will not own THAT too!”

Kinn regained his composure and stood from the chair. He walked to the door of his brother’s study and started to leave. Before he left he looked over his shoulder at Ladron.

“We could have been his most powerful allies, but he did not respect us in that role. Now the Drow that he so clearly understimates will prove to be his most potent enemy.”

With that, Kinn departed his brother’s study and left the tower for the lands held by Stonegate.

Ladron could only sigh.
