Kinn sat once again in quiet meditation as the sun went down over Umbra. He had a few favorite meditation spots in the city where he knew he could find peace and quiet—most of the time at least. This time he was he in a patch of trees just east of the Drow Quarter. It was a peaceful spot and one rarely visited by others.

Kinn closed his eyes and allowed his mind, body and spirit to become unified and at peace. He cleared his mind of all thoughts and once his mind was a blank slate he began to focus on the issue at hand.

Umbra.

It was a different place since the Matriarch stepped down as leader, and even more change was yet to come. Kinn had seen many strangers in Umbra lately. He knew things about some of the recent visitors that he shouldn’t know. He had seen things that he wasn’t meant to have seen. He had overheard conversations between Umbrans who thought they were alone.

They so rarely remember to mind the shadows.

Kinn couldn’t help but chuckle a bit to himself at the thought. It was Umbra, after all. One would think this city’s people would know that the Drow are always in the shadows here. Watching. Guarding.

Of course, a lot of people—Umbrans and strangers alike—had been taking the Drow for granted lately.

Sure, the Matron still controlled the Drow Quarter and even the new Warlord of Umbra, this Shalcross character, claimed to respect Umbran Drow and the sanctity of the Quarter. Still, Kinn knew better. He had seen with his own eyes and heard with his own ears just what these new Umbrans thought about the Drow. He remembered clearly that night when that cursed Lich put the Matron in her place. He told her outright that the Drow had no say in the affairs of the city. That alone was unbelievable, but that the Matron didn’t order her General to strike that foul creature down on the spot was the worst part of all! And when she pledged Drow allegiance to his cause Kinn could have almost died from disbelief!

The Syndicate abandoned Umbra before these events began, Kinn thought to himself, why do you care what happens to Umbra? Why do you care what they think of the Drow here? What does it matter if the Matron loses all power and authority in this place? What concern is it of yours what that Lich does with the city?

Despite an hour of focused meditation on these questions the answers never came.

When he finally opened his eyes Kinn only knew that he did care and that he had to do whatever it took to ensure the Drow kept their rightful place as guardians of the Umbran shadows.

Kinn sighed loudly.

"F'sarn ichl idealistic whol ussta ehmtu bwael nindolen tangin." he smiled as he spoke to the shadows.

With that, Kinn leapt to his feet and took to the shadows himself, intent on learning more about the key players in this unfolding Umbran drama.

Alaundril was walking through the newly acquired property. He had to admit, he was very impressed. The size of the place was good enough to begin work on the project that would bring some cover to his little operation. And hopefully bring the matron and those around the area some form of entertainment. He was quite sure that the newly built "Double Dagger" would prove to be a profitable endeavor. The Syndicate desperately needed a place that was not near the Umbrans and the Matron's quarter. This place had a perfect spot near the mountains in the desert. It also offered a secure and safe means of returning to Umbra and the Drow Quarter, more importantly. A sly grin escaped him as he stood atop the highest level of the Double Dagger this late evening. Crimson eyes looked down at the newly built fighting pit on the roof. His mind played over some of things his outfit might see, hear or encourage to pass here...he thought of the profits that could be made from his new venture. Perhaps those concerned would be entertained and blinded by what this place had to offer.

His last agent, Riven Pitt, had tried to open this place but had failed quite some time ago, due to the outbreak of the Minoc invasion. That was no matter now. The time was ripe for violence and chaos. People would seek this out, perhaps it was time to post some more wanted posters....he would need new employees if he expected this to get off the ground. Hopefully, the Spider's Kiss name would not be noticed in Trammel. He made his way back to his own home and business. The sun was beginning to rise behind the large stone building there. Giving the Drow a perfect view of the waking city of Britain. Soon. The time to make a move in this city would come. He must sew the roots of his underground first.
