Upon Kinn's next pass through the Spider's Kiss Trading Company building, he would find a new order awaiting him in the typical sealed envelope.
K:
Your work has been progressing well. I am very pleased with all that you have brought to me. It is imperative that you seek my counsel as soon as possible. We will begin phase two this week. And you MUST be briefed on what the steps are that we will take.
Regards,
The Boss.
Alaundril left the letter in Kinn's lockbox in the vault and moved on to the rest of his duties. |

Kinn saw the envelope with his name on it at the usual spot. It was pure luck that Kinn had even bothered to stop at the secret Syndicate HQ building (Spider Kiss Trading Company---as if the Syndicate cared about running a merchant business!). He had been so caught up in his usual mix of information gathering and his self-imposed mandate to perform periodic patrols of the Drow Quarter that he very rarely remembered to stop in and check for messages. The Boss had said things would move slowly. He wanted to take his time.....wait until the marks were at thier weakest. Personally, Kinn thought that the Boss was overly cuatious and even a little bit...dare he say it....scared? He always seemed like the jittery, on-edge sort.
This new message certainly came as a surpise.
Phase Two? I wonder what brings about this sudden change? Kinn thought to himself.
Kinn wondered if the Boss had finally straightened out the problems that he was having with the Matron and the Matriarch. The Matron only seemed to want people to leave her drow alone and she was more than happy to leave others alone in return. The Matriarch only ever committed her soliders to battle when it served her own purposes. Otherwise, she was content to form peace treaties with groups that were clearly not aligned with the spirit of Umbra. It would be a daunting task indeed to rally these two to conflict solely for the sake of conflict. It was all mind-boggling to Kinn, really. One would think that a Drow Matron and the Matriarch of the darkest city in all the world would relish the chance to slay a few worthless ligthtsworn (even a few "nuetrals with lightsworn tendencies"), but what did he know? He was a spy and an assassin, not a politician. The Boss would gain the support of the Matron and the Matriarch against thier marks or he wouldn't, Kinn would kill regardless. Perhaps he had succeeded in gaining thier support after all? That would certainly explain the reasons why he was ready for Phase Two so soon.....
Kinn stamped his seal on the outside of the envelope, indicating to the Boss that the message was read and understood.
I'll see you soon, Boss. We certainly do have much to discuss.
Kinn chuckled softly to himself at that last thought and then left to see which of the Zento ninjas were out hunting at thier favorite Tokuno spots at this hour. |
