Apologies if this is already documented or has been talked about, but I'm having a hell of a problem and wanted to get some feedback on it if I could.

I love the necromancy skill, as both an rper and pvper it is a big part fo what I do.

Recently I revamped one of the said necros and gave him 120 necro and ss. Now usually when it comes to skill gain my general mode of operation is to use the forms to gain as much of the skill as possible, with the last spells I ever cast to finish up being lich form and vamp form. I've never had a problem with this before, but now I definitely am.

Most of the way with necro goes pretty fast, I've done it all before. However this time I noticed that after working lich form for a little while I started having problems. I would start, go for a while, and then boom uo crashes and gives me a message about virtual memory. So out of curiosity I open up my task manager and start doign the same thing, just casting lich form every few seconds, and what do you know I notice the VM size/usuage jumping up quite a bit with every single casting.

Well admittedly I was feeling lazy, and didn't want to try reinstalling ultima so I figured hey, I'll just deal with it till' I get to vamp form and maybe I won't have problems with vamp form. Unfortunately this isn't working out either.

I am as of right now sitting at 110 necro(120 with ossian), with two friends on their necros, casting vamp form.

I myself have timed it with task manager open, and in the last 30 minutes my vm size/usage has gone from 84,000 on the client, to 400,737.

Literally that much of a jump in thirty minutes. Both of my friends are viewing the same thing happenign to them. One of my friends, who only has 512 mb of ram, is only able to cast vamp form for a few minutes without uo crashing on her.

So this tells me that its a global coding problem. We all are suffering the same issue with uo itself. I and one friend are using uoa, the other is in plain old uo without a third party app.

It seems pretty unreasonable for uo to crash in such a short amount of time from casting a spell. I tried a few mage spells and didn't see this at all.

Anyoen else seeing this problem or aware of it? Any fix to it or feed back would be apprecaited. Thank you mucho.

Wow this is a big one, Mairsil. Have you tried reporting it to the devs yet?

And does it affect you if you do it only once and stay in vamp form?

Did you and your mates figure in any additional programs that you might be running in addition to UO? Some utility programs like UOAM, UOAssist etc.?

Usually just vent and ICQ. I tried it a few minutes ago with neither open however, also closed any other exteraneous program just in case.

No UOAM, no UOA.

Started at 39,000K And after casting Lich form 15 times was at 67,900K

Seems like a pretty serious problem in the code of the spells themseleves, actually.

The VM usages aren't dropping when you stop casting either...

I haven't verrified Vampiric embrace, but Lich form, Wrath, and horrific beast, all do the same thing. I tried it individually after restarting UO in between. All produced a similar reaction.

I sat and watched the task manager after each spell. Literally each spell takes 2mb of memory.

The good news is I cross posted this to UHall and jeremy already picked it up. So hopefully with Jeremy giving it to QA herself we'll see a fix soon Very Happy

I reported it months ago, can't say that I'm surprised it's still there.

My husband and I both came across this same problem while working necro. It's been like this for a while. Hopefully Jeremy will do something about it. It seems to be just necro.

I kinda knew that if I sent in an email or a bug report nothign would happen for months, I was hoping that posting it in UHall it'd get seen by the right people.

Hopefully that makes a difference.

I'll poke one of the devs I talk to on an almost daily basis. She works in systems and all that, so she could probably take a look at this real quick, if she's not too busy with other stuff.

If she's too busy, meh. Try using UOA's -releasemem and see if that helps?

I just wanted to give this post a bump, as my people training necromancy are still running into it.

So Azunda and a few others had the problem before I did, and three months til' a year later after Jeremy having directly responded to it and it is still an issue.

Thats pretty incredibly annoying..although truth be told, I have to wonder if they leave it this way on purpose. Could be an antimacro attempt, under the justification that normally no one would need to cast necro forms over and over.

Just speculation though.

i have had the task manger out while i was silver, faction point and general pvping in fel and it jumps regardless when i switch from wraith to normal... in the end i had to leave fel due to it slowing my comp up..... its bad enough that i play with a ping of 250 at all times......

I've noticed this training necro even with other spells.
