Alaundril found himself up into the late hours of the evening this night. The builders had finally finished sliding the last pieces of granite into place. The Spider's Kiss Trading Company was nearly ready to be open for business. Judging by the date, his help should be arriving within the next few days. That would at least give his place of business some hint of what he was claiming it to be. Both he and his new friend, Matron Viaxus knew better than that. The truth of what the old Drow was bringing to Umbra would be shown in due time. Umbra was the least of the assassin's worries. Not long after the lower floor was finished, the Matron had come to him and requested....ordered him to hold her treasures in his vault. He turned and walked to the balcony and looked out over the Drow Quarter and then to the center of Umbra, deep in thought.
This could prove useful, she may be more inclined to extend the protection of her House to me.
Alaundril sighed and looked down at the stone floor at his feet. A sad time it was for the Syndicate when it needed the protection of a Matron and her house. Centuries ago he held the remaining leadership of his people in his hands. Those long dead Drow all knew the name, though they barely could whisper it, lest they were harshly punished. Since the disintegration of the Sossaria's Drow Society, the Sirah was taken by the numerous humans of the world. And what was once a feared and respected circle of Drow Males became simply a band of brigands. An organized crime outfit. Typical of humans.
Sirah...a forbidden name. One that I even dare not speak aloud. These blasted humans stole it from me decades ago. From us... They made a joke of what was once deadly and feared.
There had been a few drow that had happened through the quarter in the past few weeks. All of them now knew who was in charge of this part of Umbra. The drow presence here could not simply be ignored any longer. Even the Matriarch herself of Umbra had granted them their own place to call home here on the south side of Umbra's city proper. He had the pleasure of running into her in person not but a few evenings ago, when Alaundril was making his round of the city. After their initial meeting, he took her back to the Quarter to speak privately about business, when others of House Alean'und began arriving in his establishment. What initially had begun as a meeting involving taxes and business activities quickly escalated into a deep discussion between the Matron and the Matriarch of Umbra. The two thought alike. Ambitious and absolute. This bothered the assassin very little, considering the more outspoken the two females were mean that they would over shadow his little outfit.
Though many had met him personally, a precious few knew what this building truly was for. There would be more to come, first to spread through Malas, giving his operatives a place to hide themselves safety, should a mission be compromised. Those in Malas Umbran and Sanctan alike would learn the feeling of being under watch. But not knowing who was watching you. That part of it gave the old drow wicked satisfaction. With the Matriarch pleased with what she had seen, she agreed to waive taxes for his company. The profits that would come from the Spider's Kiss Trading Company were superficial only. Alaundril was hardly concerned with such trivial things such as wealth. The crimson :S: was his only concern, the web that was being woven here in Malas....and soon to come would be Trammel. Something that could not be seen or spoken aloud. Numbers within military ranks, a baker a stable hand. Soon these surface dwellers would know that they could trust no one and chaos would ensue.....
