Late in the morning the day after the first battle with the Legion and the Guard, Bailos was pouring over his half-recovered book of plans in the building formerly used as the mayor's office. Sprawled accross a large table were blueprints, log books, inventory reports, schedules and a multitude of other things.
With his head resting against one of his boney hands, the necromancer heard a knock at the door. With a curt, "COME" he bid the messenger to deliver the news. Choosing to stay close to the door, the young Minoc lad spoke, with a mix of fear and excitmeny in his eye, "The miners sir, they've found something in the furthest tunnel!"
Pushing his chair slowly out and with a sigh, Bailos slipped on his boots and followed the boy to the mines. Caking the bottoms of his boots with mud, he followed the mine shafts and caverns all the way down to the deepest level which the boy spoke of. Down in the far right corner of a large square room, which was now being expanded by several citizens, was the top of a turrett tower.....of Dwarven design.
As his eyes adjusted completly to the dim light, he inched closer, removing his gloves. When in focus, he quickly walzted over to the tower and began running his hands over it, a smile growing on his face with every inch of the stone and metalwork his hand covered.
Finally, after a quick moment, Bailos turned to the boy, with one hand still on the turret and bid him, "Run, quick, tell Lord Beouvle that 'we' have found what I wanted him to see...SPRINT!"
As the boy sped off, tripping in the dark, Bailos made his way over to the window of the tower top and looked inside..Pulling stones away he made an entrance big enough for a full sized man, then went inside. All the miners were down near him now, filling the room with eager looks, craning to catch a glimpse. Not more than five minutes later Bailos slowly came back out with a large, toothy grin, looked at the workers and said, "This is it boys! THIS is but a start of what will lead this town to glory!" With these words he commanded several men to enter the hole he made and start clearing it out, carrying out crates and a few weapons and armors, and several chests. After the wares started to be stacked, he continued, "Do you see? This is but a sample of what Azeroth will bring you all! All your work will be rewarded! Let's finish excavating this tower, then you can go home to your wives and enjoy double the rations of food and water tonight!"
As a loud cheer filled the chamber and echoes through the annals of the mines, Bailos trudged out to the surface, with the ringing love of the citizens still in his mind.....
With the discover of the Dwemer tower, the stronghold was not even a couple days dig if they stayed working. With every stroke of the pickaxe Bailos and Azeroth neared one step closer to finding the precious metals and technology they came looking for. In his mind, there was nothing Vaen could do to stop it now. Azeroth was too entrenched in the hearts of the citizens to be overthrown. Vaen's battle cries fell like leaves on the ears of Minoc's citizens.
.....now he was one step closer..... |
