It was surprising to have a letter arrive by messenger, there were so few people in her world that would do such a thing. Sylvan broke the seal and scanned the penmanship, which was easily identified as her mother's.

A sister. A baby sister, she thought. Well certainly that might explain the prolonged absence of both her mother and Zachary, but it angered her to feel so left out. In a strange way she felt immensely betrayed by Zach, but also accepted that he had alot going on that he would not speak of. Zach had been acting strange, the last few times she'd seen him.

Sylvan sat at the table, reading and rereading the letter. Not fully understanding why, but knowing that she had to, she held the letter over the candle and let it burn to ash.
