Lord Regent,

I write to inform you of a power shift in Moonglow. My term as Mayor ended abruptly when "Archmage" GreyPawn abolished the inner council and my Mayorship with the help of Vice Mayor Malicite. An unfortunate incident, but my term was up within a week anyway.

I do not know what GreyPawn has in store, or if he will follow what I was originally planning to do, which was work steadily alongside you. It is my deepest hopes that he does so without any form of trickery, as I was pushing for Moonglow to be a part of the Protectorate ever since I offered my help in Britain. Whether or not he plans to offer that same help, I don't know.

I can no longer be of any help.

Cal Hurst

The halls of Castle British seemed bland, kept clean with their usual meticulousness by royal servants. Walking them brought back fleeting moments of a fond farewell to Lord Wudrin, and the abysmal state he had left the royal guard in. The Archmage approached the door that lead to the office the Magnate occupied in his duties in the Protectorate, marked with the royal crest. Steadying himself at the door, GreyPawn mentally categorized his thoughts. Calculating the potential outcomes of each of several possible scenarios, each with varying degrees of benefit ultimately to Moonglow, he rallied his best diplomatic energies. His face contorted and winced as he began to put on airs of charismatic persuasion. A gentle smile, the slightest curious glint in a white pupiled eye, a relaxed posture to relay openness and friendly attitude.

*knock knock* The heavy wooden doors swung open and GreyPawn walked forward to stand before Isk.

"Hello old friend. Amazing. You are looking more and more like Aleph Aeirs every time I see you." The old man grinned.

"There's a name I have nearly forgotten." Isk ruminated briefly. "I like to think that he would have likely broken under what I have dealt with over the years."

"I have no doubt." GreyPawn retorted, riding the razor thin line of Truth.

"The old names were much more fragile than we really give them credit for." Isk seemed to stare off into space for a moment, running the gamut of names lost to time.

"Absolutely true. Ah, and speaking of old names, mine being one... have you read my latest proclaimation?" GreyPawn's eyes fix on a stack of letters piled upon Isk's desk. The one at the top bearing a tell-tale watermark and written on heavy scroll paper as employed exclusively by the Moonglow Town Council and most members of the Council of Mages.

"I have not yet been able to get to my letters." Isk taps the pile and shakes his head.

"Oh? Well, may I do the honor of reading it aloud for you then? Perhaps I can apply intonation where needed, as is my flair for the dramatic."

Isk shrugs and picks up the sealed parchment, handing it to the old mage. GreyPawn cracks the seal and is silent for a moment. I do not know what GreyPawn has in store... he reads, committing the note to memory and quirking a brow at the signatory.

"Dear Lords and Ladies of the Land, I have assumed leadership over the Moonglow Town Council once more..." the Archmage pretends to read the entirety of his earlier missive to the councils and governments of the land, holding the paper to his eyes and mimicking following along. "...I am looking forward to working with you. Warm Regards, Mayor GreyPawn."

At this, the mage folds the parchment neatly into the palm of his hand and casually tongues a "Vas Flam". The paper goes up in a discreet flame, quickly reduced to ash that floats in the air for but a moment.

"Does this change the plans that were set in motion to ally with The Protectorate against the vampires that now control a large part of this city?" the Magnate shifts back to lean upon his desk and eyes the Mayor inquisitively.

"Vampires control a portion of the city? Come now Isk, that's just careless."
