Jerrick sat lazily in his usual spot atop the small fortress that he and Calamyr had been using as the
central base of their operations. Most of this job bored him to tears, sure the wandering orcs down stairs
sometimes wandered near the front door, the Drow usually scattered them with a few well placed spells
that for the most part, killed those who were too dumb to run. They were fairly quiet this evening however,
leaving the human man alone to his thoughts.
On the table before him there was a multitude of unorganized maps, papers and notes. Mr. Stark was taking
a break from his reviewing of all of the information that his operatives had been bringing in to him. Troop movements,
detailed records of conversations, shipping lists and just about every other odd and end that had been thought to be
even vaguely useful to his outfit. Now he looked out at the clear desert night and puffed slowly on a large cigar.
In his other hand rested a glass of some brown whiskey that Calamyr had laying around.
With a grin from beneath his mustache and goatee he though to himself...
Probably older than me and my own mother put together...knowing those damned elves.
The events in the most recent weeks had given the former assassin a purpose again. No more scrounging around
for food in the forests. He had made himself look quite a bit different than he did a year ago, so he was sure that
those who had known him in the past would most likely not recognize him. It was nice to simply relax and enjoy
the good things that he had done without for over a year. Calamyr had found him only a few weeks ago, enlisting
him and his precious few in a dangerous game of deception and spying. Mr. Stark laughed quietly to himself.
This reminded him of the days before the War of Minoc...
Taking a long drag off his cigar, he flipped through some of the reports from those who watched the Moonglow Militia.
My my....they are quite busy aren't they?
The evidence on his desk from those who had been watching was quite useful to the cause. The maps detailed their patrols
through a small point simply known to him as Honor Point, though the true name mattered little. It appeared that the Moonglow
Militia had been skirmishing a small group known as the Legion of Honor. He set down his glass of whiskey and stroked his goatee
thoughtfully. If what was in front of him was evenly partially true, then what in nine hells were the Moonglow military doing messing
with a small yet skilled group of warriors. The location held some strategic value. But not enough to justify the dedication of a large
host of troops. Were they trying to stroke their egos? What was the motive?
Jerrick to a slow drag off the cigar and let the smoke drift from his mouth slowly as he pondered this.
He continued to sift through the various reports. Quite a bit was unnecessary and extensive. Such were the drow though. These documents
did not last long as he cast them into the small fire in the fireplace.
As he reviewed the most recent notes from one known as Ogree, he grinned widely.
This however is most useful. Might be the break we've been looking for It seems that those in Moonglow are not as united as one might think.
Perhaps that is something that can be used to aid my associate's cause. It will need to be soon, while their attention is diverted.
Jerrick finished off his glass of whiskey and snubbed out the cigar. He then began writing in a small book, it would take some time
to word it properly, but he had high hopes... |
