Cyrus Skyfire sat alone at his desk. Going over a particularly difficult spell that had eluded him for over a day now. His study was soon interrupted by a soft knock on the door. He turned in his chair to face the door to look upon whomever it was.
"Enter" He said loud enough for them to hear.
A young page opened the door and entered. Looking at him, Cyrus quickly came to realize "young" was not the right word to describe him. Cyrus himself was barely two years his senior! He shook his head a bit so he could concentrate on the reason he was disturbed, an almost impatient look coming to his face.
"My Lord, a letter has arrived for you." The page said.
"Put it on the desk." He replied as he looked back down to his open spell book.
The page walked over to his desk slowly, Cyrus could barely hear the footfalls, trying not to disrupt his lords train of thought. He placed the note on the desk then backed up and waited patiently to be dismissed. Cyrus waited a few moments to let the page stew before absently waving a hand to send him out. He watched as the page bowed as he backed himself out of the door from the corner of his eye. As soon as the door closed Cyrus shoved his spell book out of the way and slid the letter to himself. Cyrus started to flip the letter over in his hands before his gaze finally settled on the Seal itself. The signet impressed into the blue wax was unfamiliar to him but he was certain it was fitting of the person whom he figured sent it. He broke the seal and began to read the letter. His frown deepening with every line he read. He came to the end of the letter and sat back in his chair. His thoughts in much the same swirl they had been over the last day. It was quite obvious to him much of his letter had missed the mark in what he was trying to say. Before he could continue with that thought another came to him. Perhaps it hadn't missed. Perhaps she looked upon it in a different light simply because of the very existence she was leading. How was it someone of her character could be put into this position in the first place.
"We've failed." Cyrus said to himself leaning forward with a start.
He began to read the letter again only to find his mind was no longer grasping what was written, instead he was forced to follow the path his thoughts where taking. Sanctus has failed. All the wrongs we have sought to right over the years. The same ones the heroes of old fought against. All of them where still here. Nothing had changed. It was because of this fact the world itself had slowly begun on a spiral into a darkness unmatched previously. Everywhere he turned there was something wrong staring him in the face.
"No more." He whispered. "I will not allow this to be." He yelled as he slapped his spell book off of the desk. In it's flight it knocked over a stack of papers. Absently he watched as the scattered papers came to a rest on the floor. Standing up he reached for the letter that sat on his desk whispering a few words of power the parchment caught fire and soon was nothing but ash. Forcing himself to calm down and think this through he soon had a plan of action sorted out. He walked to the door and pulled it open so quickly the page waiting outside seemed to jump right out of his skin before recomposing himself.
"Send for My cousin Vian and Lord Ragnar." Cyrus said as he began to walk by.
Stopping in the hallway, he turned back to the Page. "Send for Tarothin Armunn as well." Perhaps it was time.
"Oh, and clean up the mess in there." He said with a gesture in the direction of the room he had just left before continuing on his way.
"My Prince." was all the page said. All Cyrus really needed to hear. |
