Cleaning the windows in her cottage Bri suddenly felt a sharp pain and had to sit down. The day was bright and warm and seemingly perfect if it weren’t for her lonliness. She thought much about him and often just sat daydreaming. Her healer kept a close watch on her worried she wouldn’t come out of her mourning, and so far she hadn’t. Her pregnancy had gone very smoothly unlike the previous two. It made her sad to think he was missing this.
She closed her eyes watching his image in her mind and feeling his warm hand on her cheek. Another pain gripped her belly and she watched the world around her spin as she tried to breath through the pain. Keeping her eyes closed tightly she focused on him, looked into his eyes and lost her pain to his memory. He reached for her hand and smiled at her with reassurance. The pain disappeared for a glorious moment as she remembered how wonderful his touch felt on her skin… so strong, so full of life. The pain was back again and she cried out this time as it became stronger. She began to panic and opened her eyes. She was alone.
There was no room for panic… she must be sensible about this she thought to herself. She had time she reassured herself with a nod. Standing she focused her energy to a gate even if just to open the portal from her cottage to her healer so he would know she was in need. Turning her palms up she chanted her magic and threw the gate open in the middle of the living room, it was all she had energy for… it would have to do.
Another pain took hold of her and she slowly fell to the ground in front of the fireplace. It was dark and cold of fire, but the bear rug provided a plush ground to sit. She placed her hands over her belly trying to breath through the pains which were coming steadily now. The gate would only stay open for moments longer and then she would be on her own. Trying not to panic she continued to breath. Finally after a few more moments her healer bolted through the gate she had provided.
“Lass is it time?” He looked at her and needed no reply from her. She was close. He layed her down and rested a pillow under her head.
“I am here lass, you are not alone… you are going to do just fine. Just breath and close your eyes… find you man in your mind, he is there with you too… he will help you through this.. breath lass.. breath..”
She did as he bade. Once her lids were tightly closed she searched for him in her mind again and allowed the tears to fall through her lids as she reached for him. He took her close and rubbed her head shushing her with a kiss on the temple. Through every pain and every push all she could see was him pushing her to keep going and she wanted so badly for this to be real. Finally she heard the loud cry of a baby and she opened her eyes with happy tears streaming down her face.
“lass you have a son”
He handed the baby to her and she cuddled it close still crying.
“what will you name him?”
She looked into the babies eyes and she could see his father staring out at her. He was still alive if not in himself… through his child.
“Devlin … I shall call him that for he will be brave and fierce like his father” |

Nadia rushed to the healers and slammed the door open looking to the man with concern. He motioned to the one room and made a motion to be quiet, but gave her a slight smile. Nadia nodded slowly to him and looked to the door, walking slowly towards it.
She stopped for a moment before quietly and slowly opening the door, peering her head inside. She stepped completely inside, and looked to the bed where she saw Brianha sleeping peacefully with a small smile on her face. She then looked to the tiny bundle wrapped up in blankets curled up in her arms and smiled.
She quietly walked to the side of the bed, staring at the little newborn the whole time and smiling. Taking a deep breath she held back the tears that were forcing themselves out and lightly kisses her mother on the forehead, then looked at her new brother a moment.
Smiling, she gave him a gentle kiss on the forehead and stood up. She started walking towards the door, taking another look at the two with a big smile and quietly closed the door. Looking at the healer she gave a small nod, wiping the tears from her eyes and speaking softly.
"Take good care of them. They're all I have now. He has much to do in his life."
She gave a small nod and walked out the door of the healers muttering a spell to take her home. |
