In the hazy light of pre-dawn, stripped to his skin, Arahim swam fiercely, putting a great distance between himself and his ship.
The southern seas were still warm, despite most of Sosaria living its days in Winter.
Content with his distant proximty to anything, boat, or land, Arahim let himself just be. He floated on his back watching the sky slowly change the colors of its cloak, waiting, quietly, for the world to awake, and thinking silent thoughts.
The salty waters became his cradle. Stars, dwindling under a growing light, made up his crown.
He had never felt so perfectly alone. So pefectly small. At the whims of the colossal tides, lost under the vast canopy of untouchable heavens.
Arahim was content as he had never been.
Smiling sadly, he broke his reverie, and began his swim back to his ship. Began his swim back into the world he'd walked away from.
Dawn had broken noiselessly above him, scattering life in every direction, and breaking Night's purposeless spells.
The world he was returning to had no time for sunrises, or fanciful moments. This world was a maelstrom, and Arahim felt diminished knowing he had made his decision.
