The clouds were thick today as Brianha sat near the window just staring out into the woods. Everything was blowing in the wind and a draft was touching her skin lightly making her shiver. She felt empty and tired. The days were long without him by her side, the nights were unbearable without his warmth, and all she could think of was the many years ahead of her that she had to bear alone with two children. She looked down and smoothed the fabric of her dress over her small belly. She had two very good reasons to trudge though a lonely life.
Thoughts of the past couple of weeks ran through her head making her head split. She had wanted so much to say her last goodbyes to him at the funeral but she was ordered to stay home. Her anguish and depression were worrisome for her healer and so here she sat.. not even in their home.. but in her little cottage. After she had returned to the house and collapsed on the floor no more than an hour after stepping foot over the threshold she was brought to her cottage and given strict orders to remain there for an undetermined amount of time. Though she was stubborn she had no fire left in her for anything.
There was a scratching noise on the door and she was startled out of her thoughts… she still kept thinking he would walk through the door and she would be able to hold him tight and nuzzle into his neck. Walking over to the door she opened it and saw the tree branch reaching toward the door swaying in the wind…. Disappointed, and adding that to her list of things to fix in the cottage she slowly closed the door and stood with her back against it for a moment to let reality settle in again. It was painful to be hopeful over and over again only to live in disappointment all over.
She slid down to the floor and sat there with tears streaming down her face again “Please don’t leave me alone… please” she kept muttering over and over again until her voice became scratchy and incoherent and then she fell asleep in front of the door. |
