Sitting in his father’s office in the families Sanctus home, Vian reflected upon the events of the prior night.

As far as the Protectorate went, the vampire lover Tai and his people were gone. Also, with the blatant and full scale attack by the vampires, the Alliance would have no choice but to finally stand against the abominations.

But the immediate issue was Moonglow opening a military outpost in Sanctus, next to Blackguard, without permission. Sanctus had never allowed such a thing, even to there closest allies. For the leaders of Sanctus, as much as Vian admired his mentor’s knowledge of the Virtues, Vian did not see the Lord Commander as a man of action, and saw him take none. The Regent was worn down from his vendetta against vampires, and he had grown more and more recluse as the weeks had gone by. Then when faced with a major issue, literally at Sanctus’s doorstep, he rambled on about building permits and inspections. Ignoring the main issue at hand, a nation that supported necromancy as a legitimate form of magic, had strong ties with Umbra, and had fought against Sanctus on several occasions, opened a military installation in the heart of the Kingdom.

Ever since he had returned to Sanctus, he had tried to downplay the fact he was a Prince. He had never used the title when he introduced himself. In fact, he usually did not even use his last name, because he knew questions would follow. When others had brought it up, he had shrugged it off saying that he was only a soldier, like anyone else.

It was not because he was ashamed of his title; rather, he was extremely proud of it. But he did not want people to follow or show him respect because of his name, or rank, or title. He wanted to earn it. But now, the people didn’t need a soldier who talked about what should be done, they needed a man to embrace his duty, and do it.
