Mama, his tiny hands tugged on her green skirt. Mama! his voice filling with authority, copied of course from his father.

She smiled, dusted graved dust off her hands and turned to see Tyranis, the tender age of what she considered to be 4 clutching a weapon book in his hand. Did your father give you another?

Tyranis craned his head up at the green haired woman who stared down at him giving her a beguiling grin. Yes he did but Mama, I wants a story...

She looked at him perplexed. A story you say? Had enough of weapons and fighting for one day? He gave her a stern look. No Mama there is never enough of that, but I have gone over what I do have many times and warriors need a rest to. She lifted him up his book dropping to the floor and settled him on her lap as she sat.

I will tell you the story of The Death Adder and the Wolf. Tyranis perked up considerably. Death Adder whats that Mama? Shade smiled, a very poisonous snake, its bite is deadly. Tyranis became excited bouncing a bit on her lap. Now my young warrior pay attention no jumping about, he stilled on her lap a hand reaching up and instinctively wrapping into the long strands of green hair. His security blanket as it were. She smiled and leaning back her voice strong and soft.

There was once a great wolf, powerful, the leader of his pack. All the wolves in the pack looked to him for guidance and direction. His howls instilled courage in even the youngest of the pack. He was a great leader of wolves. He had lived a very long time, this was well respected. A wolf's life is harsh, they often die young, for they are vicious and prone to doing battle.

One day this wolf sat by a silver stream and noticed a snake slithering out by the water, he was curious and moved closer to check this creature out for perhaps, he thought, it would make a fine meal. The death adder was a lonesome creature, it did not run in a pack and it was given to be untouched, not bothered by any. The wolf's nose was a shock to it as it sniffed one of its shiny scales.

Stay back! The Adder hissed. The wolf cared not for he was far to strong and wondrous to be messed with himself. I will do as i please, you see you are on my land and I have never seen one as you before. The Adder angrily hissed coiling up. Master Wolf, leave me be. The wolf heeded not the snakes words and sadly the snake bit the wolf right on his paw.

It was not long before the wolf died....and the snake went on its merry way.

Shade looked down and Tyranis sat his head resting against her his face seriously pondering her story and she smiled. Mama, I dont think Papa would like that story. She laughed. Her eyes twinkling she looked at him for a moment. What my son did you learn from my story. Tyranis screwed up his face thinking hard and long. Well you certainly shouldnt mess with things you dont understand, and secondly you should never beleive yourself to be invincible.

From across the room a very stern voice erupted from the darkness, Myrddin arriving home his white hair glowing in the torchlit room. WRONG! Clank, a large sheild hitting the floor. Shades smile growing bigger and Tyranis leaping from her lap running to his father who pulled him up staring at him as he hung in mid air. The wolf's mistake, my son, was letting that Adder speak he should have killed it from the start, then investigated. In fact your mother has forgotten the real ending of that story in which the wolf lives and the Adder dies for its impudence...

A laugh from behind him made him peer over the squirming form of his son. Shade you will be the death of me yet....filling his head with silliness.

Is that so mister wolf? I thought I was supposed to die first, isnt that how the story goes...
