Being apolitical suited Merrique just fine. She did her thing within Umbra, Walter did his thing within Magincia, and things were left at that. Merrique adored Magincia, though did not necessarily embrace the Humanis ideal appreciated by many of the inhabitants there. What was going on in the rest of the world made very little difference to her; she had accepted years ago that the gypsy voice was too quiet--even collectively--to be heard by most and that also was fine.
However, perhaps a little more interest in the goings on in the world may have served her well the day she packed up her younger child, Warwycke, and headed to Britain to see her cousin at the Salty Dog to discuss holiday wines that she considered importing for the upcoming season. She strolled through the streets, winding her way to the tavern.
The men had never caught her attention. Nothing seemed amiss until she felt the sickening thump against the back of her head, and before the world went black she heard the loud cry of indignation and surprise issue forth from her son that was abruptly ended when a cruel hand was clamped over his mouth.
Merrique lay crumpled on the cobbled pathway, the coolness of the stones doing nothing to rouse her. _________________

Merri had left for Britian earlier, and for whatever reason Walter decided maybe he should go find her. Something seemed amiss, maybe she wasn't home in time, he wasn't sure so he went looking anyways.
"Shal, I'm headed out you behave alright, clean your room or something useful while I'm gone.
After wandering around town for far too long, he turned down a dark path and saw something on the ground up a head not sure what it was in the dark, as he got closer he realized it was a person, a lady. His heart sank when he realized it could be Merri, wasn't long before her rushed up to the body and looked at to his horror there she was, the love of his life Merrique.
As he had done so many times before with his job as a soldier he reached down to check for breathing. He was relieved when he heard that breath, well, barely a breath. Then looking over he recognized Warwycke's bag, the one merri carried with her when she went anywhere with the baby.
Franticly he searched all over the area for any sign of the boy but sadly nothing, not a soul around. The boy couldn't walk there was no way he wandered far on his own. With that he realized that maybe some did take him. But why? Why take Warwycke? Didn't take long to realize that Warwycke Magincia's ray of hope, the first baby born on the island after the disaster. Someone surely a lesser must of kidnapped the boy trying to smash Magincia's hopes and dreams, the ones this boy will surely make real.
He picked her up in his arms and whispered in her ear, "It's me dear, you will be perfectly fine." And swiftly took her to the healer there in Britian. Ever hour he would wander out for twenty to thirty minutes looking for any clues about where his son had gone, before returning the chair he had next to the cot Merri was in, waiting for her get well enough for travel. _________________

It seemed that every time she tried to open her eyes, even the dimmest light caused an explosion of pain in her head. Laying as still as possible to keep the waves of nausea at bay, Merrique occasionally came close to the surface of actual consciousness. Somehow she was aware of the seemingly constant presence of her husband.
Maybe it was hours, or even days, that she lay in the state of dreaming yet somehow not dreaming.
At one point she did manage to open her eyes, and despite the pain and sickness that enveloped her, she managed to whisper to her husband.
"Warwycke. Where is Warwycke?" _________________

Walter almost in tears thinking his youngest son was gone, did all he could to muster up the strength to be strong.
"He's missing, When I got there, there was no sign of him, we are doing everything we can to find him."
He did the best to comfort her, Merri was always a strong woman, but somethings were even too much for the strongest people. And the question Walter had wished she hadn't asked until her pain and sickness had diminished. It was all so confusing, someone abducted Warwycke, but no ransom note, no demands for money or anything. It had been several days and Walter was well known enough a ransom letter wouldn't have trouble finding him.
He waited till Merri slipped back asleep before heading back out to try and find any clue as to what happened. _________________
